Well, had over 70 vehicles ...
OK you win, I'm not even close to that number. :)

However I might be able to claim "owned for the longest time" - my 1966 Chevelle SS396 convertible 1966-1984 (18 years), my 1967 Corvette 427 roadster 1978-1996 (18 years), my 1956 Pontiac 2007-present [still own it, continues to be my project car] (14 years and counting). Anybody keep a car longer?

I've got a 2001 Wrangler sitting in my garage that I bought new. And the Ram's predecessor was pretty much a daily driver 1995 Cherokee bought in October 1994 and sold in June 2019.

1985 Toyota Corolla (5 speed), gave away in 2019, sat in backyard since 2006, being restored, motor started right up for new owner. 1994 Ford explorer in driveway, need to make arrangements for the hook. 2001 Dodge Ram SLT with 84,000 miles, still in service for the "dirty jobs" and bigger bed. One son drives a1990 Toyota Celica (paid $1500 8 years ago and other son drives a 2006, 5 speed, Honda Accord (formerly wife's car).

Insurance rates for fire, theft and collision in NYC for new vehicles add substantially to the cost of ownership. I think the 90 Celica is one of those bullet proof vehicles. 1985 was a simple fix mechanically, great for the back yard mechanic. I think it was 87 hp.

Holy crap. I've owned about 40 cars over the last 50 years. Gonna show this thread to my wife and tell her I need to play catch up. Probably won't work.

Richard320 has me beat, I might get a runner up with my 1999 Chevy Silverado purchased in November of 1998. Drove the truck for 20 years and traded it in on my current Ram Truck with 225,000 miles on it.

The AC was leaking coolant, the transfer case needed to be replaced on the 4x4 unit and the top end needed to be rebuilt was burning oil. So it was time...

My first car when I turned 16 in 1991 was my parents old car, a 1981 Chevrolet Citation X-11 edition. Other than being one of the biggest pieces of s&#t I’ve ever driven (and why I STILL can’t ever buy a Chevy), its other unique feature was a sideways radio.

I just recently sold my 1987 IROC-Z that I had for 21.5 years. Not the longest owned compared to others, but it looks like it's at the top of the list here. I bought it June 2000 and sold it in November of 2021.

Here is the next car on my list. We have to go back a year to the summer of 1989. I had finished the spring semester at Magnolia and was preparing to go to the ROTC Advanced Course at Fort Riley, Kansas in July. I was in an advanced placement program and was going to get commissioned there after completion. I had quit my job in Magnolia and moved “home” until it was time to go. When I got home I found two Corvettes. Dad had been buying sports cars at heavy equipment auctions again. o_O

The first was a 1974 L88 with 454 engine. It would have been a great except the front end was completely smashed.

And the second one was this cool little red 1977 Vette with factory wire wheels, luggage rack and the sad little stock 350 engine.

View attachment 102075

The 77 Vette had been running until Daddy and a "lady friend" has gone for a little afternoon cruise. He said the lights got really bright and then everything electrical quit working. And Daddy didn't work on anything unless he could stand between the front wheel and the engine. :p When I saw the battery, I knew what had happened. The voltage regulator in the alternate had frozen and the alternator had fried the electrical system with too many volts. And of course, the battery was bloated and cooked.

Luckily, there was the L88 for parts. I know a smarter move would have been to cannibalize the 77 Vette to fix the 74 L88. But that would have been too big a project for cars that were bought on a lark. Every afternoon after finishing up on some truck or heavy equipment, I’d work on the red Vette. And then at dark I’d drive to Arkadelphia and run for a couple of hours. Arkadelphia is a beautiful little town with two universities and is sort of situated between two rivers. And there was nice jogging trail that covered about half the town. It was also in a “dry county” back then meaning it was illegal to sale alcohol. So it was very safe to be out at night running on the trails and down the city street.

When I had finished cannibalizing the L88 for electrical parts and bulbs, I put a dealer tag on the red Vette and began driving it to Arkadelphia every evening with the t-tops off. There’s nothing like being in a C3 Vette. It draws lots of looks and everyone thinks it’s cool. I only wish it had a place to lock up the tops securely like the Fiat had under the hood for its one-piece top.

Of course, both Vettes were soon sold after that. But I’ve always wanted one since then. ;)
Nice story on the Vettes. I had a '69 I'll be posting a pic of shortly

I always liked that Volare body style. For some reason it got no respect back then
