Well, my truck is just under 500 miles, and mine did it twice today. I put it in drive and nothing. At first I thought maybe I was on a slight incline so I gave it a little gas. Both times the transmission popped into gear suddenly. It did not feel good on the transmission. I will be calling the dealer tomorrow.

I have certainly read a lot of posts on various problems people have had with their new trucks. I was hoping most of the bugs had been worked out since they have been in production a while. Hopefully, with all of the others having this same issue they will have a fix in place.

THanks again and i thought it was odd that they couldnt check the tranny fluid level too. And yes, i did cycle back and forth to Park a time or two and it never went into Drive until i accelerated. I did test out the Parking BRake too. This is functioning fine as far as i can tell. When the issue happens the dash Park Brake red light is NOT illuminated. I will get it to a different dealer for sure if it keeps up. Thus far, it hasnt acted up since i took to dealer here in Crestwood KY. Thanks again to each of you. Doug
This is the same exact thing that I am experiencing. Did you end up finding a fix for it? The dealer has been unable to replicate even though it has happened to me 5 times now with less than 1000 miles.

From my exeperience, replacing the transmission fixed the issue. Someone is going to be seriously injured or die if Ram doesn’t fix this problem.

I have had this happen once maybe twice in 4500miles. There is a hesitation when put into drive then the lurch forward, never to the extent Dutchman is experiencing. Not annoyed enough to deal with the dealer. I will be watching though. I have to say I really miss my floor shifter in my 2011, FCA bring it back!!

Dropped mine t the dealer today and picked up a loaner car. I do not want to put off a needed visit. Something like this could definitely hurt someone or cause an accident.

Just a quick update on mine: I had this happen 3 times within 700 miles. My dealer did a TCM and PCM update, TSB# 21-021-18 and #18-076-18. It also lists New part# 683600086AK and #68378743AK, although I don't know that any parts were actually updated.

I've put on another 500 miles since this update and have yet to experience the problem again. I'm hesitant to call it fixed given I've only gone 500 miles since the update, but thus far it simply hasn't occurred. I'm crossing my fingers this fixed mine. It might not fix yours obviously, as there are many things that could be the issue.

I just got a call from the service department and I was advised they could not get my truck to replicate the problem. He advised they checked their system and my truck was not listed for any type of recall or update. He said just drive it and call when it happens again. I am not sure what that is supposed to do since they did not find the problem this time.

I would think with as many times as others have had this issue, they would have a fix by now. I kind of have this feeling I am going to get to know the service department well.

Next time it happens, record it with your phone and bring it in. I got lucky and had it happen while actually at the dealership and made the guy come out and look at it while happening.

Did your ECM show any kind of error code, or did it simply convince them there truly was a problem? I am going to show the service guy your reply regarding what they did to repair yours. I told him there were several people on the Ram Forum who had the same problem and I told him about the noted solutions. He said they checked for updates on mine and found none available. When was yours built? Thanks

No codes and in fact after they brought it in they couldn't replicate againoc course. They found the updates on the tsb numbers I listed above and ran them. Once my service advisor witnessed the issue first hand, he immediately said "you need to leave this with us.". I'm hopeful this fixed it, but confident otherwise they will not ignore me at my place.

Good luck!

Sorry, forgot to note I'm a September build if memory serves me correctly

Hello all,
I recently had this happen in my 19 Bighorn. I did some experimenting and found that if you have the “auto brake” turned on from the control screen, where the parking brake engages/disengages automatically the parking brake WILL NOT release automatically without your seatbelt being buckled. It appears to be a safety mechanism. It also WILL NOT automatically disengage if the drivers door is ajar.

This is always something to check for. However, the problem for many happens regardless of this. My parking brake has never been set to auto/on.

Mine happens when the parking brake is off. I probably should always use the parking brake, but don't unless I park on an incline. Mine is not on autoset.

I did receive a phone call from Ram Cares today. They wanted to know the result of my dealer visit. They were helpful and advised to call anytime. They also asked me to let them know should I have any other issues.

2019 Rebel bought 2 weeks ago. Same exact issue. Brought to dealer and couldn’t replicate. No error. Reset software... here’s hoping...

Happened to mine as well. Seems like it happens at least once on a daily basis. I actually have a claim with warranty because I have a burn mark that was done during paint and overlooked until after purchase. I loved the truck, took a big gulp, and bought it, but it’s been aggravation since I bought it. Less than 1,000 miles and nothing but trouble. After reading these post I am contacting the dealership again.
