Security system is not included/standard? WTH?!

After locking electrically/closing doors etc. look for the indicator flashing rapidly above the speedometer. It will do that for 16 seconds as stated in the manual and then flash slowly indicating the alarm is set. How easy is that? As already stated, just like probably 99% of all vehicles in the history of car alarms.

Don't be too concerned though. Have you ever done anything when you heard a car alarm going of except said to yourself "I wish that would stop" LOL

Actually - my alarm gets triggered and who/whatever did it, is typically staring down the barrel of a .45.

I took the $5K worth of Focal/Moscone audio out of my Honda Pilot before I traded it in - not sure whether I want to tear up the interior of my Limited with the "19 Speaker HK System" to install all my stuff in here (though, my installer is a miracle worker at making stuff disappear). I typically use a Viper 2-way with GPS on my vehicles, (motion/shock/glass/perimeter) mainly to protect the extra gear I install (laser jammer, radar, audio systems, etc.). I'd rather get a few "falses", then come out of somewhere and find a window broken and stuff missing (or broken glass and no vehicle).

At any rate - after the "initial enable" detained in the manual (locking with FOB or Switch with door open), you only have to lock with FOB or door handle button to enable. I was under the impression (from the manual) that you had to do the fob/inside button thing EVERY TIME to enable the security. Verified with a call to Customer Care.

They could make the dash light a little more visible from the outside, to let would-be-interlopers know that there IS an active (albeit passive) security system running in the vehicle.

Haven't decided whether I'm putting one in this truck or not - but you would simply not include the smart start module and do alarm only. Or, in cases where they vehicle already has it, the CANBUS module could likely be utilized so the phone-app based start can be used.

Either way - you'd need a second fob for the alarm.

I have a Laramie and on my original window sticker it says nothing about a alarm. Just did the window down test and the alarm goes off.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to get the alarm activated? The light is in the dash, and there is a panic button on the fob, so I feel like activating the passive alarm is just a simple computer activation.

Not all Rams come equipped with the factory alarm. The Manual from my 2020 Big Horn says “Factory Alarm (If Equipped)”. Mine was not equipped, as this thread reads, neither was the original posters truck either. So my question stands, can the alarm be activated in the computer via Dealer Uconnect?

Holy cr*p, I think you're right. I just went through my build sheet and "Security alarm" is listed under optional equipment. This is an incredibly cheap (and stupid) move by FCA.

Turns out it's a part of Big Horn Level 2 Equipment Package.

I'm sure that it can. Whether they'll do it, as a stand-alone, is another question altogether.

With that said, I turned mine on with AlfaOBD.
Works perfectly, with the exception of there not being a hood switch. (Which is perfectly okay with me. People around here mostly break into cabs, not engine compartments. And you have to be in the truck to pop the hood, anyway.)
One caveat... If you turn stuff on with AlfaOBD, there is a good chance that it will be turned back off if they ever do a flash upgrade to your PCM. I believe they do flash upgrades by VIN. If those options are unknown to FCA, they will likely be over-written by the "upgrade". You'll have to re-enable them.

Most likely, you do not. The "sentry key theft deterrent system" is the programmed fob, that is required to be in the truck, before it will start.
Mine was the same way.
The semantics are kind of confusing, when you're looking at window stickers and option equipment groups. Probably by design. (But I'm not cynical. )

With that said, I turned mine on with AlfaOBD.

Care to share the exact steps / options in AlfaOBD? Turned out my BigHorn has it, but I wasn't sure before and was searching through AlfaOBD for that. The only option I found was "Cabin Net - ITM Intrusion Module". It's this the one that needs to be enabled / activated?

So, are you not turning off your truck when you park it for the night?
That's your first complaint, that you have to turn the truck off and lock the doors in order for the truck to be turned off and locked? Seems pretty straight forward to me. Not sure what you are so upset about.
Would you prefer that your alarm is activated while the engine is running and the doors are open? How would it know then if you are breaking in, or just driving the truck yourself, smh...

I think you're quoting the wrong person. I'm not upset about anything--just explaining how it works.
