Rear window surround crack.

Does the c-pillar plastic trim have to be removed when they replace our back windows?

Mine was replaced a few months back and I noticed the screw access holes has some pry marks on them (not from me). I’m guessing this is from when they removed them to resolve my window.

I’m the only owner of this truck so if it wasn’t me, by process of elimination...

Also, I have a wonderful clicking noise now when I own and close my rear window. Off to the dealership we go!

Yes, it is my understanding they had to remove the rear side trim pieces to get the window replaced. They broke parts off of mine and had to order replacements, keeping my truck in the shop a few extra days.

Quick word of caution. When you order the new 06036802AA Torx head screws for the new 3rd brake light, you might want to order several sets. It appears they are one-time torque screws. I found a tech note that states to torque them to 2.8 n-M, which worked fine the first time. But when I had to remove my light to fix a bulb issue and tried to reuse the screws, the threads on two of them failed and stripped out. I didn't think 2.8 n-M would be enough to damage the hardware, but it did on mine.

Wow. 3 months? I was really worried after reading so many posts here like yours. Took my truck in and they had it for 1 day on 4/8 to confirm the leak, then I waited a week for the new window to show up on 4/19. During install, they noticed a small chip in the new window and told me to hold on to the rental until 4/22 for the NEW new window to come in and be installed.

Do you have other dealerships near you that you can try instead?

I've been in contact with the dealer parts department and chrysler and was told the same thing. The delay is 100% on the supplier of the glass.

Here is the part number they used on mine

So just a quick update, RamCares was able to escalate and I dropped the truck off and was told the window guy would be in today. Got a call not too long ago that they removed mine and when they went to install the new one they noticed it was used. So at this point we're waiting for another "new" replacement and the window guy to have time to do the install.

I will say that my dealership has never been bad, at least not to me or anyone I know, so I definitely don't fault them for the delay. I did take the precaution of getting pictures of every inch of the interior before dropping it off, sometimes techs get in a hurry and whatever is in their hand becomes a pry tool.

Has anyone had luck getting the water stains out of the headliner? I'm not sure if mine is still leaking or not, but my headliner looks like total trash now between the water stains and the grease stains from when they installed the back window. Not happy about it at all, but I don't want to bother trying to clean it until I know the leaks have been fixed. I read where some have gotten replacement headliners or even carpet/padding for mold remediation. My dealership just slapped a new window in and called it good, except the next rain it leaked even worse than before. I replaced the 3rd brake light myself because I was afraid to take it back to the dealership, but it will probably end up there before this is said and done.

So I was starting to put my rear seats back in last night after getting my truck back with the new window Mondan afternoon.

Part number on repair invoice 68303352AE which matches none of the parts on the STAR form

Found stickers on inside of lower window frame with following DTPH, 68426398AE, 513710AC, 10/29/20, 08:30, #0102, EXPIRES 01/27/21

And then another sticker with 10/28/20 21:19 DT Pwr Heated

So now I am more confused then every when it comes to the mystery of the back glass replacement saga

When you put a copy of your repair order up earlier, I was confused too...I'd like to see the entire updated TSB Ramcares Hannah posted on 22 April, 23-016-21, post #1825

The plastic window frame/track does look thicker and the rubber seal on the outside of the slider looks much different than the previous, dealer said they found 3 cracks in my original one, they said out of the ones they replaced so far, most just have the one or two hairline cracks on the top. Mine was leaking so bad that the tops of the seats were getting soaked as well as the carpet almost all the way out to the in floor storage boxes. Surprisingly headliner never got wet leading me to believe that may just be a TBL issue but each truck may be different.

I finally got a call from my dealer yesterday that my glass came in. Was told 4 days before wasn't expected until may 24th. Scheduled install next Wed. And it happens to be a company I know and use for all my window chip repair and they replaced my windshield in my last truck. So I'm happy about that.

You pulled your own seats? Dealer have any issues with that?

no leaks on my new window and 3brake light and hex torque screws, so far so good..rain, carwash etc.. all good

Yes I pulled my own seats because the window was leaking so bad it was soaking the leather. Originally it was gonna be a month before they could get it in so I took matters into my own hands. Dealer had no issues with it, they actually thanked me for it.

My turn to deal with the dreaded cracked window frame - just noticed it a few days ago on the left hand side above the sliding window pillar. The window was already resealed last Fall as it was leaking around the perimeter (but no cracks at the time) and was dry since. Looked at it yesterday again, and what do you know - a crack, and a little bit of moisture trickling down (nothing too serious yet, thankfully). Dropping it off at the dealer on Tuesday to get inspected by third-party glass shop and put in a warranty coverage request, and then wait who knows how long - RAM should really make this process more straightforward, considering how widespread the issue is.

My dealer ordered my back glass on 3/9/21. Tuesday, I called them to check the status. It's been at the dealer for about a week they said. Turns out the service advisor who ordered it no longer works there and his replacement was trying to catch up on all his open tickets. Wonder how long they would have sat on it before sending it back or sticking it in someone else's truck and not even telling me.

Anyway, I am having it put in on Tuesday at a trusted local glass company.

I had a similar experience where my service advisor went MIA between my first visit and the glass replacement. It sure didn't help the situation....

Glass and 3rd brake light assembly replaced yesterday, here are the part numbers (they did not use torx screws on the assembly)

68426398AC - Backlite glass, manufacturing date of March 2021
68298380AG - Lamp

I'll be ordering the torx screws myself I suppose but I'm quite happy that I have a very recent glass date. Hopefully we don't do this dance again. A shout-out to @RamCares for their assistance.

Hello all,

I have 2020 Ram 1500 big horn quad cab. Bought it used about a month ago. It has 8k on it, now it’s at 11k. I noticed that the headliner above the rear window was wet, as well as the corners and back seat headrests. My first thought was the 3rd brake light. After hearing about the cracked window Frame and surround I checked it. I can’t tell if this is a crack or normal. I can’t remember if it was there before or not. It looks like a really clean cut and it goes all the way up to roof. Water was leaking out of it. It is only on the left side. Any advice would help.

I’m starting to think it may be the 3rd brake light as well as the window.
