Rear window surround crack.

My leak is from the cracked window frame. I can squirt water around brake light and no water inside. Squirt at window frame by slider and drip inside. I've had the truck for a little over 2 years so it's not under warranty. Dealer quoted me $2,300 to replace the back window. I have a case open with FCA Customer Assistance to see if they would do anything but have not heard from them yet. I really don't want to replace this with the same part and have it happen again, not to mention the risk of careless techs damaging things in the process. I'm thinking of removing the brake light to get a little more access to the channel around the window and putting a little silicone down in there to see if I can solve with a little redneck engineering before I spend money at the dealer for this. What do you guys think?

"a little over two years"...are you certain you are out of warranty as they come with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty.

Its a known issue. They should cover it!! Fight them!

Got a case open with Customer Care now and they're going to see what they can do for me being that I'm only 2,800 miles over the 36,000 mile warranty.

Anyone know of a company that sells third brake light covers? Not like an overlay but more like a vent visor type of thing. Probably best option to prevent any water from even going behind the light.

Reached out to a company to manufacture a deflector for third brake light, let's see what they say

I was pretty closed to pulling the trigger on a new Big Horn and now I am hesitant because of the leaking issue !
I understand that there are issues with any vehicle but if there is no real fix I might just get another F-150 since I had good luck with my 2015 !

Just do the diy gasket swap and be done with it. Cost you 10.00

Since its nor a structural issue, just use "flowable" silicone along the top of the rear window for a permanent repair.

The glass is covered under warranty for 2 years. Your problem isn't with the glass, it's the frame that holds the glass. It's covered under warranty.

The glass might only be covered for a year, can't remember. Either way your issue isn't with the glass

Remove your 3rd brake light and look into the channel. You’ll see the crack in the frame. Fill with silicone and move on. No guarantee the replacement window won’t crack too. Or call safelite and get them to replace it with a new slider or a solid window.

Well, it's raining today. I decided to go out and check my back window for leaks after discovering the dreaded crack the other day and sure enough, my window is leaking around the frame. I don't feel any wetness on the headliner so I think my third brake light is leaking. My build date is October 2019. When the hell are they going to fix this??? Why has there been no class action suit here. WTF FCA? FIX your $#!^. I had the back window in my 2016 replaced two times, now I have the SAME ISSUE WITH A 2020 RAM. This is wrong on so many levels. NOT HAPPY AT ALL ABOUT THIS!!! I LOVE my Ram but seriously, this needs to be resolved. Maybe try a different rear window manufacturer??IMG_1829.JPG

My 2019 now has the frame crack on the drivers side of the sliding window. Leaking also.

I remove the third brake light and looked down at the window frame from the top as you said. Not only was it cracked on the drivers side but a crack was forming on the passenger side as well. The passenger side crack has not spread to the inside of the truck yet.

I had a tube of black Dicor self leveling lap sealant used to seal RV roofs. Really good stuff, it flows and remains flexible. I cut the tip so that I got the smallest bead possible. Filled the area between the window glass and the truck body, the full length of the area below the 3rd brake light. The self leveling sealant flowed perfectly into the gap. No mess or cleanup and you’d never know it’s there.

Replaced the 3rd brake light gasket while I was at it. Problem solved!
 
Does anyone know if FCA changed the rear window part in the 2021 or will this be a continuing problem? Also I thought FCA changed the gasket for the third light, is that correct?
