Rear window surround crack.

Just put 225 miles on a fresh off the lot truck. Its for rode trips only, not a daily driver. Checked it over thoroughly at delivery (truck was born on 1.30.20 @ dealer 2.20.20, new home 2.21.20), all looked good. This trip was in the rain, whew, no water leaks yet, its sad you even have to look really.

On inspection of the rear window we can see what looks to be the cracks forming (I'm betting the cab flexes allot helping to cause this issue).

Left side upper frame (vertical rail is left side of slider).

Right side upper frame (vertical rail is right side of slider).

Gonna put about 900 miles on it next trip, bet the rear window frame is cracked by the time we return home.

Be sure to check under the driver side floor mat for the other leak.

Where is that other leak from? I did see a drop the other day, but thought nothing of it as I ran my hand under the dash and didn't find any wet spots.

Wondering if anyone has the cracks (which I now do on both sides) but have no had leaks? I cant find sign of leaks thus far but I do have the black headliner (no signs of water stain). It is a matter of time or a chance that the window seal will hold up along with assumption the 3rd brake light was installed properly at time of build (2020 model, built in July 2019).

I only notice my rear window frame leak after a car wash. Some are worse than others .

Just a heads up for everyone with a leaking back window that hasn't been replaced yet, there is a radio frequency module mounted on the back wall of the cab, behind the backseat. Any water gets inside, the truck is dead in the water, literally. They didn't find my rear window leak until the RF Module was replaced and they noticed the inside of the module was corroded. I put a plastic bag over mine to protect it until the rear window was replaced. Might want to have the RF module checked for water damage, while they have the backseat out to replace the rear window.

Yes, I noticed the cracks after six months of ownership. I only looked after it was first reported on this forum. My window has never leaked. My truck is now 18 months old.

have had the crack for a few months and I wash my truck in the touchless car wash lots of pressure no leaks yet.

I took my truck in when i noticed my headliner was stained in both corners. Said it was coming from the 3rd brake light. Replaced and it is still leaking. You can see where the frame is going to crack but it hasn't yet. i am hoping that they can fix correctly this time. I hope it doesn't ruin the headliner.

If they have the rear window replaced. When you get it back check your truck out real close. When I got mine they had scratch the paint on the rear passenger cab door seal , torr the bottom rubber seal and gouged the plastic trim up that covers around the rear seat. They told the dealership that they didn’t pull the back seat. The dealership told that they had to pull the back seat to replace the window. So the dealership is taking care of all of the damage. My dealership has been good to me so I can’t really *****. But I told them I wouldn’t let them do anymore of their customers trucks.

They scratched my paint as well (along with not bolting the seats or seatbelts back down).. sent me over to their sister (Ford) dealership to have that repaired. Looks great so far.. still something I shouldn't have had to deal with...

I attempted to pick my truck up yesterday after getting the rear window replaced. The install looks good but we had rain and snow and my headliner was soaked in the left rear corner from the replacement. It has never been wet before but at least I got the latest part number (68426398AC). They are keeping the truck to make it right and I am hoping that there is no stain since they caught it quickly.

I took my truck to the dealership as soon as I noticed it. I had them document the cracks, so that in the future should a leak develop I can have it repaired under warranty. I choose not to replace at this time because I do not want to take a chance on collateral damage during the repair and I do not believe the cracks have anything to do with the leaks that are occurring.

I had a chance to look closely at a rear sliding window on a 2020 Silverado. There sure are enough similarities in design and materials to make me believe Ram and GM are dealing with the same manufacturer. So I asked my GM tech. neighbor if they've had problems with theirs, and he said they are on national backorder for the exact same problem.

Dusty

Silverado Facebook groups are filled with people having the same issue. Not sure how Ram typically handles the repairs, if it's in-house or to a glass shop, but a lot of Chevy repairs have been done by techs who obviously don't know what they're doing - they apply caulk all the way around the rear windows and it looks horrible.
