REAR WINDOW LEAK

I just received the letter from Stellantis about extending the warranty coverage an additional three years for the well known rear window leak issue. About a year ago mine started to leak a bit on each side of the window. My truck was out of the warranty period so I repaired it myself by using a few tubes of Permatex windshield silicone. It's been working fine so far with no issues even during torrential rain.

I am hesitant to have the repair done under the extended warranty as I have heard many people had the same issues pop up with the replacement window. I also hate the thought of the dealership removing my headliner...and causing damage to my vehicle. I can't decide if it's best to just leave well enough alone at this point.

Any thoughts or input on having the repair done are greatly appreciated.
Leave it alone. 50% of the repairs are not successful

Since there are so many different flavors of leaks with varying amounts of success on trucks with an average price above $50K, I'm curious to know if there was a class action initiated?

Yes, the end result was the extended warranties for rear glass and third brake light

Gotcha! Thanks!
I'm guess the rear window fix under this class action was the new, non-cracking frame? Mine seems to be poor adhesive frame-to-glass....

I sort of disagree with mikeru82 on the issue being the cracked frame. That was definitely an issue on the earlier models, but the newer models have a newer style frame that doesn't appear to be cracking. But, the windows still leak. Many have had the windows replaced due to the crack and got the new style, just to have the water leaking a year later. The issue appears to be with the adhesive being used. My back glass was leaking, but never had a frame crack. I fixed it by using flowable caulk to seal the window from the outside. The flowable caulk flows into the upper window channel and disappears between the glass and the body sealing up any and all pinholes in the factory adhesive. I've been leak free for awhile now and I didn't have to deal with the dealership.
Any pictures to show where to put it?

just siliconed my 2024 because I m paranoid about water getting to that rear battery. Cheap insurance is my thought, even though some say it s a new design. It might be but who knows if leaks can still occur ?

I got a letter in the mail for the extended warranty on the third brake light but not for the back glass. My 2020 was built during the time period covered by the TSB that discusses the extended warranty on the back glass and the headliner has water stains in addition to the back glass frame being cracked in the same places as shown in the TSB. Took it to a dealer who confirmed the leak but they are telling me my truck only has an extended warranty on the third brake light and NOT on the back glass. They are telling me the TSB doesn't actually mean anything and that some VIP list needs to have my VIN on it for the warranty to be extended. Despite RAMCARES telling me in PM that my truck is covered for the back glass, the dealer disagrees. I contacted Ram support online and they first told me the glass wasn't covered. I brought up the TSB and extended warranty several times and they won't address it and instead just tell me to submit a paid invoice for consideration on some level of reimbursement.

Asked the dealer to try to work with the manufacturer and they just say they have no way to contact them directly which I'm certain is a lie.

What's your mileage at? I just had work done on my 2020 and one of the items the dealer did a one time courtesy repair on so I didn't have to pay for it. The dealer does the work they just have to submit to RAM, and dealer said there was a timeframe limit to fall in to and mileage. I want to say he said 24 months or 15k miles past the bumper to bumper expires

Yes, we understand your vehicle is a 2022 Ram 1500. With that being said, since this extended warranty only covers Ram 1500's within 2019-2021, any repairs of this component for your vehicle would not be covered. Furthermore, we continue our recommendation regarding receiving a diagnosis for your concerns from your local dealership.

nice huh I guess this is my last Ram
Hello all ..I have a 2020 RAM limited and the dealer took care (not really a great job) of the 3rd brake light issue ..covered under the warranty extension letter. Now comes the bad part ..the glass repair tech saw an issue with the seal around the rear glass window ..dealer never clarified what he saw. Before I took my truck in I did see what appeared as a hole where the roof trim meets the rear glass and on the same side as a water stain was on the inside glass ..sounds like 1+1 = 2 to me and source of the leak and thus agrees with TSB cause...manufacturing. They charged me $375 + use of a CC for sealing around the rear glass. I discovered TSB 23-042-24 and Fig 2 is what they did for this charge. I brought this TSB to their attention and near the end of the document..vehicles included in this TSB have an warranty extension to 8 years or 150K miles. Sham dunk right..no ..they would not refund my money ..said this TSB did not apply. Can anyone help and determine who is right? I live in Maryland

The warranty extension only applies to some trucks not all. It does not apply to our 2020 Limited either even though the date of mfgr falls within the dates listed on the TSB. It's obvious to me that Ram (Stellantis) is in the wrong but good luck getting anything out of them if your VIN is not included in that TSB. Lots of us have taken care of this on our own using Permatex flowable silicone.

This bulletn?
Does your truck also meet these qualifications? 2019 - 2021 (DT) RAM 1500 PickupThis bulletin applies to vehicles built on and before September 30,2020 (MDH 0930XX) equipped with a Rear Power Sliding Window(Sales Code GFE) or Rear Sliding Window (Sales Code GFD).
If so I see no reason it isn't covered. Did you pay cash, check or Credit Card. Because I would stop the check or tell the Credit Card company to put a hold on payment. Until you get a reason why it isn't covered. My credit card through Chase in NY will even do an investigation. If you foward evidence to a problem. Geico when I had them also did the same if you took their repair coverage ryder. But every state is different so I cant be sure where you live and how it works.

Thanks ..how can I check my Vin # to the TSB? Next week I plan to call RAM CS.

I agree with mikeru82 and there lies the up the A$$ with no lube

It was a CC payment plus 3% more on the $375 for using my CC. That might be a good idea about placing a hold..my CC is through a credit union and I know the people their very well. I really don't get it..I can read English and it covers my RAM (yes, it has the sliding window)..next week a call to RAM CS..I'm a person who feels when that are right ..I don't give up!!

My plan will be to contact RAM CS next week and hope they see my point and authorize a dealer refund. Then my next plan is to search for a weather strip, like I've seen on the front windshield of vehicle ..T shaped and sloped to place in the channel they sealed.

Good luck tell us how you make out, I have no idea about the weatherstrip. The recall was done on my truck before I got it from the first owner. He gave me the papers to show it was taken care of. So far I see no problems since the recall.

looks to me that the fix just replaces the same old "bad design" window. Now Ram will see if they can fend people off for another 5 years using silicone, LOL

Monday call to RAM Cares ..a total waste of time..pushes it back to the dealer ..repeats all of what I know..my truck doesn't have the sales codes GFE or GFD ..those codes deal with a sliding rear window ... which I have ..my as built was a model DT6M98 with a package 27M ..which consists of a power sliding window, Dealer indicates my sales code ..which I don't see on any of my paperwork ..my sales code is GFEF ,,which I'm looking for...my thought is the TSB 23-074-24 should have listed my code, if we're dealing with a power sliding rear window leaks. Seems to me we're dealing with the same issue - manufacturing - no matter what code is mentioned or omitted ..it's a leak. Does anyone know something about code GFEF?

WOW thats interesting Manual Sliding vs Power sliding rear window. I just looked at the recipt for the recall done on my 2020. It only says brakelight not glass 6/11/21. Though the guy I bought it from. Said that when the light and tailgate piviot cup recall/Tailgate Latch Alignment recall was being done. They called him and said the rear window seal needed replacement also. He says they kept it for 3 extra days to have it fixed, but it doesn't say anything on the peperwork he gave me. All I see is SPort Apperance Package (AEF) and Off RadGroup (AWL) info. Then it says Bighorn/Longhorn.

Hate to say it these codes are like medical codes. Medicare has one set, and my City medical plan has another set for the same thing. Trying to reference what money went where is near impossible to determine hospital stays, Medical doctor and copayments.

It's late ..just back from emergency trip to the vet ..but I did find on my cellphone the GFEF code. while waiting 7 hrs ...I have to locate that info tomorrow ..,,and I find something that indicated that the dealer puts in the sales code when it's configured/ordered ..I think I'm on to something there ..check on it tomorrow.
