Rams Towing Racecars Thread

Very nice, I had Firestones in the 1 ton.. think Ride Rite in the 3/4... I'll look into the Ride Rite as well. Think the Firestones I mentioned I was quoted like 130/140 bucks for the kit.
That's comparable then. I think my airlifts were 130/140 ish on amazon.

I had Firestone bags on my little Nissan Frontier to tow the racecars, what a MASSIVE difference they made. Granted the Frontier had terribly weak leafs, but for 3+ years the bags worked amazing, never leaked, and transformed the ride even with no load. I'd leave ~10-12psi in them for no load and bump up to 25-30psi before hooking up the trailer.

Max Tow isn’t available on Crew Cab
Sorry... it has 3.92 gears to have the maximum towing available for the trucks set up. I should have been more specific... working at a dealership that's just a force of habit everyone is in if a half ton has the 3.92 as many do not.

I wouldn't trust the dealership, they go off the best case scenario on a unicorn truck.. with no option but what is needed for that max payload / towing number.

For example: My truck is rated at the same payload towing (same rear).. the real payload on the door is only 1375lbs. I'm sure you are higher than that, but I'd double check. Remember, the payload does not take into account the weight of fuel, driver, passengers, hitch, or anything else in / on the truck that did not roll off the assembly line with it from the factory. (y)

I hear you there.. Thankfully. I have not experienced that at my dealership. I have worked here for some time. All I have to go off of is what Chrysler stated for Max cargo/tow with the VIN.. I'm sure i'll be under with a car and trailer for that.. tops is 8k-9k pounds I would guess.. and it a truck cant tow that... in my world.. it isn't a truck LOL

I hear ya! Seems like they don't make 1/2 tons to tow anymore.. or maybe we just weren't paying attention before?

My trailer is around 6-8k depending on what I have stuffed in there. At the 8k range I'm looking at a 1k lb tongue weight, maybe more. With my 1375lb payload, WDH, and my fatass.. I'm pretty sure I'm at or over that legal payload limit, but under the GCVWR.

Here is a Chrysler chart.. check your sticker or weight your truck. This is for my box length and motor/trans/gears for a 2019.. with my doors sticker on GVWR and then the GCWR that puts me around 10k for a trailer.. just shy if my head math is right.

That's only good for a base model no option truck. Check your door tag to see the real payload of your truck. (y)

That’s why I said you have to check the weight of your truck on the tag and or goto a scale

Side note... Looking for a CAM class pony again for SCCA Solo... found one and it was right as i was leaving the office and it was sold in the 20min it took me to drive hope.. it was ready to rock... 96 Cobra... :( Hurt my heart a little she was gone haha... But that means must be time to get back to chasing cones and track days.

How does your truck handle the trailer & car with the 3.21 gearing?
It’s great. I put about 500lbs in the bed. Trailer is 1800 lbs and car is 2600-2700 lbs. I get 15mpg towing and have no real trouble.

15 MPG while towing approx 4900-5000 lbs? I have a 2017 Ram Sport, 5.7 Hemi and 3.21 gearing and pulled an aluminum, tandem axle, enclosed 7x12 trailer with a street glide inside (approx 2600-2700 lbs) and get and average 11 MPG with tow haul engaged. Maybe your lower open trailer is the difference. I'll see what my 2022 Laramie Sport does when I get it. I know it won't be 15.

My 19 limited and 13 longhorn. 22 backcountry is on order!

Sounds about right. My open aluminum trailer is only 1250#, so add 500# in the bed and 3100-3400# racecar on the trailer and I typical get 14-14.5mpg towing.

I get 9 to 11 mpg towing anything 3,000# camper or 7,500# loaded enclosed car trailer with my limited etorque
