Definitely consider airbags. They make a world of difference for the price.Been towing this 30' enclosed trailer with a dragster in it a few times now and the truck does great! There is some sag in the rear so I'm considering stiffer springs or air bags or even a 2500. Getting up to speed, maintaining speed, and stopping are all fine. I have the Andersen weight distribution hitch and that does an awesome job. Really no sway or bounce that can't be managed. I do back the car in with the engine towards the front but I'm considering pulling it in to get the weight off the tongue.
Yeah I am looking at the Firestone Coil-Rite kit for the truck. Stock the suspension is "squishy" i can see even 700-800 pounds of block in the bed squating her out lol. I have to do bags anyway as she's getting the Carli arms/coilovers and if you haul or tow the recommend the bags. I had bags on my 3/4 and 1 tons and they were great towing heavy and made the truck more planted feeling.Definitely consider airbags. They make a world of difference for the price.
I don't have experience with Firestones, just have the airlift 1000 hd's. I assume they are similar though. Best upgrade bang for the buck if you tow, in my opinion. I agree, they definitely give a better feel. Coil spring rears are great for comfort, but not for towing.Yeah I am looking at the Firestone Coil-Rite kit for the truck. No photos of my new Ram 1500 with the flatbed yet or the cars in tow. I do have a question. My trailer is a steel 24' speedloader (14k- so dual 7k axles) as it pulled double duty for track and at the family farm; And I had a 1 ton megacab.... now I dont to the farm work like we did and sold the camper and got the half ton.. I fear that trailer "beating" this half ton up.. anyone have a steel heavy axle trailer and tow with a half ton? I am debating on selling it and getting an aluminum but boy these after covid prices are scary.
I will pull the Challenger (shes a boat haha) and the Saleen. And looking at doing a dedicated track/autocross car or a street/strip cobra/shelby.
Here’s the trailer with my older 3/4 ton Cummins
...yeah, I would be lieing if I said "I don't miss my mega cab" lol... Do those go inside the rear coil springs?I don't have experience with Firestones, just have the airlift 1000 hd's. Truck has 3.92 with max tow.. she's fine is is what i was told... Max payload is 1,667 and max tow is 11,557 per Chrysler and the dealerWith a car on that trailer you 'might' be over your payload & GCVWR depending on your options and rear.
I recommend a WDH for either trailer, even if you get bags.
Yep! The instructions say to remove the springs to install, but definitely not necessary. Jack up the rear to put some droop in the springs, fold up the airbags like a taco and zip tie them. Put them in the springs and cut the zip ties. Much easier that way....yeah, I would be lieing if I said "I don't miss my mega cab" lol... Do those go inside the rear coil springs?
Very nice, I had Firestones in the 1 ton.. think Ride Rite in the 3/4... I'll look into the Ride Rite as well. Think the Firestones I mentioned I was quoted like 130/140 bucks for the kit.Yep!
