Fellow “Rammers” traded my 2018 1500 Laramie for the 2021 1500 Laramie. Both have Ramboxs. It’s been six days and the drivers side Rambox pops open anytime. My 2018 had no problems now I read here some had same problem with 2019’s. Ramcares spoke about it but what was the solution?

First off welcome to the forum . I’m not sure what the solution is ( I’ve never had Ram boxes ) . I would think the dealer would be able to fix it though .

this is unfortunately a known issue to the rambox, you appear to be one of the worst cases. definitely bring it to the dealer, but they might not be able to truly fix it. there are many threads on this issue, for example this one:

I picked up my 2021 rebel 3 weeks ago and had the same exact problem. Every time I would close a door, the drivers side ram box would pop open. Did it for 4 or 5 days and then stopped doing it and hasn’t done it for over 2 weeks.

That thread is more about lid fitment, not about them popping open. As far as I know, that's not a common problem. I've never had it happen, and my lids are misaligned more than I'd like. I would think fixing an issue with them popping open on their own would be a much easier problem to fix than the lid alignment. I can live with the alignment issue, but I couldn't live with them opening on their own.

It’s not the fitment, the actual electrical lock would activate and pop the lid open as if you pushed the button to open it

My 2020 Rebel was doing exactly the same thing. I would park and turn the truck off and the drivers side box would open. Dealer said it was the solenoid in the latch causing it to open. They installed a new latch yesterday. We'll see if that solves the problem. Truck is only 2 weeks old.

Exactly this. The alignment issues, which certainly vary from truck to truck, are usually minor compared to the functionality gained from having Ramboxes. The alignment on mine are pretty good but if the lids popped open as the OP described I wouldn't be very happy.

I'm dealing with this exact same problem. truck is like 2 months old. been trying to figure out what triggers it but it seems what you're describing is exactly it. I shut the truck off and walk away and as I'm walking by i hear it pop open.

Also only the drivers side. passenger is fine.

Its not even been a week so not rushing, but please dont forget to report back on whether its gone away. I need to schedule an appt and would like to be armed with info before they try the whole 'we can't reproduce the issue' business.

The new latch seems to have fixed the issue. Funny enough, the box stopped opening on its own about 2-3 days before going in to get the latch replaced. After having the latch replaced it is still staying closed.

On or about 12/23/20, Ram issued an alert to its dealerships regarding this issue. On certain trucks the wiring harness on the drivers side dips low inside the bay that holds the Rambox. When water gets in there and into the harness it releases the latch as though you pushed the button. There is a now a fix for this specific issue -- if you have a low harness, they will replace it with one that sits high in the bay so that it is not exposed to water.

Can you reference a particular TSB about this for reference?
Although my truck is in warranty, I'd like to handle it myself.

If there is a reference to this alert, I would like to show it to my dealership. My drivers Rambox pops open sometimes within seconds after I get out, sometimes it is around 90 seconds. It doesn't happen all the time and is not repeatable so the dealership couldnt reproduce the problem. It doesnt open while driving which is good, but I always now check it before getting in since about half of the time it will have popped open.

Mine is the same, and now the button to open it doesnt do anything, but it still randomly pops open. Only drivers side has issues.

Add my truck to the list of Rambox issues. Truck is 4 months old… I noticed the driver side box was popped open a couple times last week when backing out of my garage. Then it popped completely open while driving and a couple of other times while parked. Hoping I can reproduce this at the dealership…. It is very random.
