R&D for a plug-n-play Ram specific dashcam wiring kit

Update: UPS has "lost" a bunch of my shipments, including thousands of adapters and USB cables.... There has been a COVID19 outbreak at the local UPS warehouse (Oakland CA), and local demonstrations / looting has caused a **** show here. The RAM adapters may or may not show up this week. No ETA (some of my shipments have been sitting there for over a month). Adapters will no longer come with a free USB cable until UPS "finds" the goods or reimburses me for the lost shipments and I reorder these from China.

In other news, this adapter is also compatible with Charger and Challenger...

Got the adapters! Compatible with the following vehicles (without microphone/emergency response/LCD mirrors):

2020+ RAM 1500 (DT)
2017-2020 RAM 1500 (DS)
2017-2020 RAM 2500 (D2)
2017-2020 RAM 2500 (DJ)
2017-2020 RAM 3500 (DD)
2017-2020 CHALLENGER (LA)
2017-2020 CHARGER (LD)
2017-2020 300 (LX)
2017-2020 GRAND CHEROKEE (WK)
2018-2020 CHEROKEE (KL)
2017-2020 DURANGO (WD)

Does not come with USB cable as that particular shipment is still "lost". Intro price ships directly from my workshop via this link and ships USPS 1st class (usually 3 days within Con. US): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B91BT9Q

Got around to the install today. Super easy to get off the shroud and cover with the instructions posted in this thread. Was only able to snap a few picture because I was in a rush. Hopefully these help anyone looking to do it. Installed a APEMAN front and rear dash camera to it and powers up no problem.

I'm glad this worked for you. Where did you decide to stick the cam and route the wire? The orientation of the oem connector facing towards the driver is unusual as this interface usually faces towards the front of the vehicle on every other brand.

I'm very interested

I would like to see a full install and on what dash-cams would you recommend.

I just tucked it behind the mirror you can see it I’m waiting to get a shorter wire and the camera I used (apeman) has a rear camera I need to install as well so once I get the short wire I’ll tuck everything in there nice but there is SO much room under that plastic plate if you take your time you could tuck a few cables in there if needed

Looks great, I see they are on Amazon now, I'll be ordering one shortly for my RAM, seems like a great value and convenient setup for those who want to add a dashcam.

On a sidenote, I originally saw this Dongar dongle reviewed earlier on a YouTube page of a Tacoma owner, she was happy with the product as well and got me interested in finding one for the RAM.

This is for the trucks without the SOS stuff and microphone etc. is there a version forthcoming for those of us WITH the SOS and all the other stuff???? I may have missed it if you talked about this already. If so, sorry in advance.

Man I almost pulled the trigger on this. I have the Limited so I’m assuming this doesn’t work for it?? If you need a test truck I’ll volunteer mine! Preferably it pulls power even when the truck is off.

I am interested in this for trucks that have SOS and other options. Here is a photo for reference.

We use Samsara on our work trucks. It simply plugs into the BACK of your OBD2 port and you run a single wire up to the camera

Just finished my wiring install yesterday. The first cover is really east to give off once you know where the tabs are. The second cover is a lot harder. I took some pictures I hope will help. The camera powers on and off with no issue. The only issue I had was I unhooked the negative of my battery while I was working on it and when I finished everything up and got in the truck to go some where I had lost some of the features on my Uconnect screen. I did some research and this is a common problem when you unhook the battery. One video said, let the truck sit over night and the issue will fix itself and sure enough it did! I have not attached my camera to the windshield yet because I am planning on getting it tinted . 86BAE0D1-9DFD-4C19-95FE-741A2819BA52.jpeg8048464E-83FF-4AB0-A9A5-BCD0221629DE.jpeg75E8EF7A-6954-49D2-A273-856778BE3519.jpegA947E7BB-CC31-4663-8442-E9C38AB0A166.jpeg2364EEF0-CA97-4AD2-98A5-8210680C680E.jpeg

It just plugs into the connector for the mirror itself. I don't see there being any difference for trucks with other features other than how to access the connector for the mirror.

Thanks for all the feedback. I've been swamped with projects recently but have commissioned just a relatively small run of these adapters to feel out the market. It looks like the 1500 shares the same connector and wiring in the Pacifica and Durango. Should be ready by the end of June and will include a shorty 8" USB microUSB cable if purchased from my webshop. You can follow me on IG @dongartechnologies where I'll also announce when ready.
Hey forum. I wanted to gauge the possibility of a Ram specific plug-n-play dash cam wiring adapter. This adapter would be unique in that it takes the 12V power running through your autodimming mirror, and steps it down to a 5V USB output... all condensed into a 2.75" jumper harness. I've been making these for the Toyota guys and they love them. Check it out here.

So the biggest barrier I see for doing this on a Ram is that the terminal housing (connector on harness) is relatively inaccessible on your guys' trucks. I can tell that at the very least you have to at least remove the mirror. Possibly some other plastic housing or headliner too. Does anybody have any insight as to how much effort mirror removal would require and if there's approximately 2.5" of clearance for a jumper harness? I have all the parts necessary to launch something like this by late May. I am also happy to send prototypes out soon for testing. Thanks for the help.
Any updates for those of us that have the SOS Mirrors? TIA

My recommendation is, and has always been, DO NOT USE THESE types of adapters. It is SO EASY to just run a wire to your fuse panel and use a fuse tap.

Way better than running a line to the fuse panel. Done this myself with no issues.
