question for etorque start/stop experts

I wanted the ETorque and I am disappointed at how long it takes for normal throttle operation after taking my foot off the brake. I have to take my foot off, consciously pause for a few seconds, and then I can use the accelerator, otherwise the vehicle surges from 0 throttle to whatever my foot is giving it instead of the gradual curve of normal use of the accelerator.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading the rrt for software updates fixing this for someone.

So you're saying that the truck will accept throttle input almost immediately? Mine does roll forward from starting but normal throttle operation from my foot isn't accepted for about 1-2 seconds, so the truck actually slows down before normal throttle accel begins.

I can tell you this is not normal operation. Either the new software should fix this or there is an issue. The pcm senses immediately when you take you foot off the brake via the brake pedal sensor/switch which tells the computer to start the engine. Should be seamless. If not the brake pedal switch is defective/ not adjusted right or software issue, possible MGU. Should be easy to see what is happening using data screen on witech. I guess other possibilities exist, but what I listed is most likely. Take back to dealer. Let them address the problem and fix it.

My truck starts rolling right away and according to Ram the engine starts in 400 milliseconds. I really don't notice a lag and there's no hesitation.

You're right it doesn't seem that bad but I'd get it checked anyway.

I test drove a Hemi eTorque Bighorn the other day and that experience aligns with the others here, no noticeable delay at all.

That is strange! But it seemed like the E-torque started and moved the truck, that looked (from what I saw around 2500 to 3000 rpms) that it slowed (engine RPM's) to shift from first to second. I would definitely have that looked at, mine does not act like that?

Yeah, the shift from first to second is fine. It's when it starts up, I expect this...

Hmm, then what I am seeing is the E-torque is rolling the truck forward immediately after you let go of the brakes. then your foot is hitting the gas? sort of a reaction time? Hey I could be wrong, I never tried to be fast with my foot, with 3.92 gears it will want to spin the tires, which is fun!

Looks to me a bit of lag delay just after 1,000 similar to Smoots. I will have to check mine out later but I suspect mine is the same.

Good eye. If you use the Youtube controls and slow the playback speed to 0.25, you can see it clearly.

At 16:23 is a lag around 1,100 RPM. At 17:28 is a lag around 1,900 RPM. Both cases look worse than Smoots truck.

Honest opinion though, man we're really splitting hairs... and I can't be certain if this is eTorque or just something in the general engine/transmission mapping.

I agree, I think I am splitting hairs. If I feel like drag racing with this thing I'll press the toggle button, LOL.

Yeah something is wrong. My truck restarts the instant I start to take my foot off of the brake. Long before it moves to the gas pedal.

Yeah, the roll is just like what you expect if the engine is already running. It's one of the 6 modes of eTorque. I don't get any hesitation at any RPM. Are you sure the RPM changes aren't the result of upshifting?

+1. Like I mentioned earlier that I would test mine tonight... and I was not able to replicate or see that lag that Smoot experiences.

Mine starts up as soon as my foot is not even fully off the brake. I had something cool happen this morning. Was at a light and start/stop kicked in. When cabin fell below selected temperature setting, with my foot on the brake, eTorque disabled and the heater came on. Very neat.

The truck engine started while you were still stopped and foot on brake?

^^^while I understand what pony is say and agree.
The restart is probably based on brake pedal pressure sensor not actual brake switch—anticipation of foot off pedal. Which results feels like -still have or just remove foot feel.

It will restart on its own, if other imputs demand it.hence a/c. Other threads on that.
