Price negotiated from MSRP

I don't know much about trucks, never owned one but want to buy one. Need your advice.

Looking for Limited 4X4. I am not planning to tow anything or haul anything. Just want a truck because I have never owned one in my life. Willing to pay cash or get a loan and pay it off right away. Not in a rush as this would be an extra vehicle. Will put about 4000 miles at most per year and plan to own it forever, if I can. Not trading in anything.

I just want a good looking truck. My personal preference is for chrome bumpers but I see many of you like body colored ones. Here are my questions:

1. What features I should absolutely get? Isn't premium sound, panaromic sunroof and 12.5 inch screen standard on all limited?
2. I do not understand hold back, and dealer rebates. Someone else asked for these a few pages back. There was a detailed reply but I still do not understand them well. My plan is to ask for out the door price regardless of where the discounts are coming from. I purchased my last two cars (sedan and SUV) using this strategy and it worked well. Would this work for a truck as well?

I intend to wait for the prices to get better than they are. Have waited for over a year now for the truck and I feel i am close to getting it now.

No to number one, standard is the 11 speaker system and the 12.5" screen. Pano and 19 speaker HK system are options.
Regarding question 2, I think the easiest thing to do is look at % of discount off MSRP to figure out pricing then add TT&L to that

the Correct way is to look at dealer discount, not total percentage. To whomever asked this question, you want to be targeting around 15% discount off MSRP. that’s the easiest way to go. 13-15% is kind of the “hot zone”. This is a much easier process without a trade, because now you’re looking at real numbers. Total percentage is not reliable, everyone has different incentives available to them. And then cash rebates vs 0% financing specials.

I think either would work, i've been able to see the dealer discount on every truck I've looked at which has been in the 6-9K range before incentives

You going to tint your windows? I am torn about this. I'm in Texas where the heat can get crazy but I also dont want to get carried away with "non-essential" add on's. I had an appointment for 9:00 but I conveniently "forgot" to show up which will buy me some time - not sure if I should or not. I always loved seeing the natural color of the sky when I am driving.

Agreed on this. 13-15% dealer discount (after dealer fees) is a VERY good discount. I see this can be found in some regions of the country a lot more easily than others, so you may quickly find yourself dissatisfied with pricing if your local guys aren’t willing to keep up to it.

There will be separate manufacturer rebates depending on trim and options. Those rebates are based on your home zip code, so they’re the same for you whether you drive to CA or NY to purchase. Each region gets different rebates, but you have to live within the region to see those.

I personally found my truck by searching on the ram trucks website and inserting different zip codes within a comfortable drive radius. My can use this tool to find exact or near matches to your search list. Truthfully, there are so many specific options that you could potentially build that it may be a struggle finding EXACTLY what you’d like to build. You’ll have to weight which options are most important to you, and be willing to drive a bit to get the best discount.

Let us know what region you’re in and I’m sure you can get some dealer recommendations from someone who has gone thru this process in your immediate area.

I am too but I'm not paying the dealer for tint plus I doubt they'd use the good ceramic tint but would charge you for it. I'll have it done afterwards, not seeing tint preinstalled on a lot of Texas trucks
 
This is way off topic but I’m posting it anyways lol. I agree on the tint, I’m getting 3M IR ceramic on the whole truck for 429. The one truck that had tint was a 350 add on and they only matched the front windows. And we all know it wasn’t ceramic.

Buyer never wins trading it in after a year. That was a crazy comment from earlier.
 
Had a dealer give me an OTD price of $55,773 w/ 0 down and 0% for 84 mos. on a '19 Laramie Longhorn back in mid March. As I have been checking out other dealerships I've noticed there are quite a few 19 Laramie Longhorns still out there. They are nice trucks. I didn't get it because I don't want the e-torque Hemi and want a 33gal tank. Now I am wondering why there are so many of those leftover, was there an issue with them?

As I have been checking out other dealerships I've noticed there are quite a few 19 Laramie Longhorns still out there. They are nice trucks. I didn't get it because I don't want the e-torque Hemi and want a 33gal tank. Now I am wondering why there are so many of those leftover, was there an issue with them?

I have to assume it’s because of the two tone paint jobs on most and the interior. I don’t think everyone wants to be a cowboy. Personally i like it, I was considering getting one but couldn’t find any with air suspension. Which is what pulled me toward the limited. If I had a choice on a white longhorn vs the graphite limited I bought with same options I would have gone longhorn.

For the RAM, 20% on the front windows and 5% sun strip was $160. If i've had to do all 4 windows on a car/suv etc then it's usually $250ish... You can probably go 15% on the front and it'll be fine since the windshield is so large. I wish I had gone 15%, but 20% still looks good.

The large pano's can be a little pricey, but most good tint places, the tint is actually cut on a plotter now and they just apply it to the window.

Would you tint the pano roof?

I can tell you why, IMO, they still have them, they're stupid.
There's a dealer near me that has a 19 Longhorn Laramie, sales guy said they'd give me a very aggressive deal because its a 19, this was a few weeks ago. Truck had an MSRP of $64K, same as the Limiteds I was looking at yet no air ride and no etorque. I asked how aggressive and he wrote $58k on a note pad. I then asked him, "whats the aggressive sales price you'll sale it for?" He said that's it and that they weren't interested in changing the price.

Some of these dealers don't understand that shoppers are shipping in multiple states if not nationwide now or that the buyer is educated; I'm sure some buyers are not and they reinforce these dealerships sales peoples perceptions but IMO, these 19's are around for the same reason 2020's are sitting on lots for 200+ days, some dealers are not pricing their inventory correctly waiting/hoping for a sucker.

Regular tint is cheap, IR ceramic isn't

this happened to me too. I looked at a 19 longhorn demo that the manager was driving, 4500 miles, same price as the truck I bought lol. I mean WHAT!? lol. I was told this is the one we can get really aggressive on, the manager wants it gone so he can get his new demo. Ok, well with 4500 miles I’m going to need that 20% dealer or bust.
