Price negotiated from MSRP

SS - Help me out - I ordered mine and now it's here - MSRP is $65,825. I have a family and friends code which gets me to $59,900. Looks like Hold Back is $1,916.00. I asked the dealer for the best price and they are telling me only $5,000.00 so my base price would be $54,900.00 + fees ($1,946.00) + TTL (3,657.64) = Drive Out of $60,503.64. This does not sound like a good deal to me - ESPECIALLY when on their website they have similar models to mine and they are discounting them down to $48,000 and $49,000 before the "fee" and TTL - let me know what you think and what can that "fee" be?

you want to be at ~9200 on the dealer discount side, so 53.6k before any rebates or that total for the 0% 84 months. (Before TTL)

I mean regardless of the coronavirus, I think 14-15% is the MAX dealer discount you are going to see. I don’t see anyone getting 20%, but that’s just my opinion. I’ve been wrong before.

1946 fee? tell them to get bent. that’s a scam. is it dealer add ons or simply a “dealer fee”?

@cmdr bobert Agreed. Law of supply and demand. High supply and low demand equals good sales. Low supply and high demand equals high prices. Low supply and low demand equals balance so no great deals. Finance deals may be better to get some to purchase now, but I would not expect any good sale prices until the production lines resume. Hopefully, once production resumes the initial demand stays low leading to better prices for those of us waiting on a good deal. I would expect end of year to be the best deals as manufacturers try to recoup as many sales as they can for the year.
The laws of supply and demand are assumed only when all other factors are equal, e.g. normal unemployment, no pandemics, etc. It's not as if all "essential" employees use/purchase trucks and are keeping the auto manufacturers afloat either. Even if supply is not being increased or maintained, car dealers are losing money if those vehicles sit on their lots for extended periods. The first quarter showed the massive losses and the big three will need to incentivize to hopefully increase sales. If they don't, they will be sitting on inventory they have and it's going to be another quarter of losses. Whether its
now or 6 months from now, consumers are entering the most opportunistic situation to purchase a car, or house, for that matter.

I agree. Ram pickup sales were up 7% in 2020 Q1 but FCA doesn't report monthly sales numbers so we really can't tell when truck sales dipped or spiked. With Truck Month and other incentives thought to be ending on March 31st, along with concerns of dropping supply due to line shutdowns, I think there was a spike in purchases at the end of March.

It is interesting that some dealers lowered their discounts on 4/1 in conjunction with some of the Ram incentives extended to 4/15. I think FCA and dealers have a false sense of hope that sales will continue to go up based on fears of dropping supplies and that they are going to wait and see how sales go over the next 2 weeks to confirm or deny the trend then decide on their next move on incentives.

Even with both supply and demand not increasing, the uncertainty and job losses for many demand will ultimately drop even further. And as you point out, dealers are still paying interest on the inventory they do have on their lots and don't have enough sales to cover their costs. I think at some point soon, FCA will need to step in and subsidize dealers with more discounts to both keep them afloat and help boost sales for them.

What i am not seeing mentioned yet is that the new model year and typical factory change over should be happening fairly soon....meaning remaining 2019's would figure to be even less in demand.

Maybe the dealers are waiting to see what happens in the next month or two as i've read that there are quite a bit of leases expiring at that time...

As an update, a representative from dealership came to my house today (weird with masks and Purell) for me to look over the truck, test drive, and sign the paperwork. Nice guy, not a sales guy. I asked him how things were going and he said they essentially laid off all the showroom sales people and are doing everything over the phone/internet. He said this will be his 10th vehicle sold this month, and demand is still pretty strong, but he is worried about supply, and especially not being able to trade with other dealers because they are closed/dumbfounded with how to operate. I'm not sure what to make of it, but I'm guessing those people with jobs/$$ will snatch up some decent deals and then there won't be much to buy unless the factories get back to work, which hurts everyone. He seemed more concerned with supply than demand, and they'd rather move a lot of vehicles at good prices than a small number and try to inflate costs. I don't think he was lying to me, but hey almost may not really know what's going on. Interesting times...
Don’t forget your possible rebate check from Bonus Drive. There’s a qualification that most of us meet, 6-8 weeks and you get the $250.

Hi all, new to the site and starting to read through this thread but thought I’d do a quick post while I read through. Been thinking about getting a new RAM 1500 for a little while now and seeing all the deals thought I’d take a closer look. I’m seeing these dealers post great discounts off of MSRP and never having bought a RAM before I’ve got a few questions:

1. Are those numbers bottom line or can I expect to negotiate more of a discount?
2. Does that great looking price include discounts I may not qualify for?
3. How do people negotiate price with the incentives? I’m thinking tell them here’s my target, I don’t care how you hit it (just have to figure out what that target should be)?

Re-read the last maybe 5 pages and all your questions will be more than answered, with actual dealers names and locations as well. Remember that with many dealerships closed, it’s a very different way of finding a truck now.

I bought my Ram Rebel last Friday and ended up with what I would call a hybrid deal. Both dealers I talked to said the same thing, if you want the 84mo's at 0%, then you forfeit the discounts. I told them I didn't want to have any out of pocket cost, and wanted zero percent financing, but still wanted some discounts. A little back and forth got me about a 14% discount off of MSRP, and 0% financing for 3 years with zero down. Also got pretty good numbers for my trade-ins (had two vehicles to trade), after a little negotiation I ended up at the mid-to-high end of the range of what I was hoping for on them. I wanted an overall good deal on the purchase, but didn't want to push for an extreme deal because I was trying to do my thing in helping out with a little econ stimulus given our current situation. I'm happy where I ended up on the deal and love the Rebel!

Folks, simply do the math...16.6% off invoice is not 20%. Friends and family code in November actually would have cost me money. Get 20% off invoice...nothing less.
That's exactly what I told the guy yesterday - the Friends and Family code actually hurts! I told the guy his website was giving 23% off MSRP as advertised discounts and he hasn't answered me yet.

He told me the $1,946 was Dealer Add Ons - Spray on Bedliner - wheel locks and Apex anti theft device - I don't know. I feel like these dealers are doubling down and just saying here is our price take it or leave it. AND - i put down $500.00 to order this one so I feel like I'm getting squeezed even more.

Yea the Berliner is 450 five or take. So there’s that, whee locks are literally 90 dollars or less, and lolz at anti theft device.

I dont know what your situation is, but eating the 500 dollars might be the best option if they are trying to over charge you buy thousands.

I have thought about that but I am emotionally tied to this truck because no one is carrying this combination of options anywhere. it just sucks!

Tough when you get emotionally invested in the purchase, I was there with my #ALLBLACKDODGERAM and was acting just like the guy in my attached video. Push as far as you can, don't get crazy, but ask him to throw in some things for free, or at cost, the wheel locks I got at cost, $50. Ask for a set of Mopar mats front and rear for free thrown in (dealer cost is $132.25), or a set of Mopar splash guards (dealer cost $89.15), or a matte black hood/bug deflector (dealer cost $93.15) etc.

My local dealer furloughed some of their Ram sales staff, so dealers are hurting. I still think it puts you in the driver's seat, pun intended.

But, consider the costs over the course of 5 years of ownership and it's probably not that big a deal. Get them to wiggle a bit more and then drive it like you stole it. Good luck, report back how you shake out.

It’s always hard to figure where you ended up when you trade 2 for a new one. I did the same thing wayyy back in 1982. Anyway, glad you love the Rebel.
Don’t forget to apply for the $250 Bonus Drive rebate, if you qualify.

Based on my deal (posted above) I think this is a very good. I got 14.04% off MSRP and 0%/84 deal, but I bought the truck the GM has been driving, so a "demo", which takes a couple grand off the equation. I did not get a stellar number for my trade, but it was in the realm of reasonable.

YOLO baby. Spending a few more dollars to get the exact truck you want makes WAY more sense to me than settling just to get a better discount. I've always caved when they have had the exact vehicle I wanted and never once regretted it.

Extended bumper to bumper, or just drivetrain? Your discount is 14% off MSRP, including the warranty. Assuming it is not a Mopar Vehicle Protection Plan, as they don't go out 10 years. Value of the warranty may be $3kish. If you add that in, you are around 18% off, which is not too bad.

Extended bumper to bumper. The extended warranty was a bit on the high side, just under 4k, but I figured since it was a pretty good deal on the truck I could swing the more expensive extended warranty.
Besides before I decided to sell the BMW I was looking at getting a similar extended warranty for it as well and most places wanted well over 5k for ine.
