anyword on your oil leak, I have a 2019 Ram limited with same issue!
Hi everyone,

I’m new here and have been creeping on these threads for the last week or so. I just bought a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic SLT 5.7 and I’ve already had to have the rear main replaced for an oil leak. The truck was preowned and had 15,000 miles on it before we purchased it but they carfax shows no negatives on the truck at all. I noticed the oil drips two days after the truck was home brought it back and a couple of days later it had the rear main replaced. After driving it for about 60 miles in 90 degree weather, the truck has started dripping again from the same location as before. I called the dealership and the service manager stated it was just assembly lube and to expect some dripping for a few days. Is this normal? And is this what assembly lube would look like? The undercarriage is dirty, so the color in the photo is a little inaccurate. The fluid is very thin and slick with no smell and very very light yellow tint to it. Any idea what it could be? I really hate to have these issues on a truck I just purchased but I guess that’s what I get for going preowned :( thank you all so much for your help!

I sincerely apologize for the trouble, @JCHRISTMAN & @betadamascenone. Please know that if you have to move forward in addressing this with your dealers, I am more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf so that at the least, you and your dealer have the additional support of a specialist in ensuring all resources are exhausted to address your concerns.

Thank you Mark! I actually called Ram Cares today and opened a case :) The dealership I purchased the truck from offered to take it in again Wednesday and diagnose it a second time. Everday it seems to leak less and less, so maybe it was residual from the leak before that has been caught somewhere for quite some time since it was on the lot with the leak for who knows how long. I’m hoping that’s the case because I really don’t want to have to leave it at the dealership again for another few days !

Sorry i have not had a chance to update. Turned out to be my crankcase seal. Fan was blowing oil onto front of engine. Running down and collecting and leaking from between the Tranny/engine. Upon first inspection, tech also believed it to be Rear Main. He checked it out more after everything cooled off and found the leak. They ordered the seal on a friday, got my truck back Monday, and hasnt leaked a drop, I crawl under it daily to be sure lol.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. My case manager gave me a call this afternoon and told me he was going to speak to the dealership before I bring the truck in. You guys really are fantastic :)

Really hoping this is just some extra assembly oil weeping out. I noticed this the other day and wiped it and there is more there now.
Wow mine as well. First oil change 5400 miles and exactly same spot not only that but here in Florida we have had mad rain not only outside but yes inside my truck. Entire back seat was under water

I never posted my update here so I will now! I ended up having three separate leaks in total: the rear main was replaced first, two weeks later the drain plug and the oil pan seal. Now that all three have been fixed, not a single drop after being paranoid and checking every day for weeks after the fix :)

Thanks everyone for sharing, just discovered this same exact leak on my 19' 1500 5.7 non-etorque. It not a heavy leak thankfully but for a brand new truck with less than 4k on the odometer i am concerned.

Took it in today and they confirmed it was a rear main seal, so ill have a loaner for at least a week. 7.7Hrs warranty time and they have to order the retainer assembly.

Sorry to hear of your leak.
I went through rear main seal leaks with my 94 Ford Explorer under warranty. Took them 3 tries to get it right, doesn't leak to this day. Mechanic friend told me there are different ways of repairing the leak. Don't know the methods they used but I guess the third time Ford decided to do it the correct way.

I haven't looked into the 3.6 but on the 5.7 the rear main seal is replaced as a retainer assembly. The seal is not serviceable by itself so in theory there should only be one correct way for it to be serviced if done right. *fingers crossed*
