NSFW Funny Pics and MEMES Thread - no nudity - PICS AND MEMES ONLY

What good would it do to merge two miles early and keep a lane empty and unused? Late zipper merge is the right thing to do, and would create the least slow down for everyone, including you.
Works great in theory, but ignores the dark side of human nature when a lot of people get behind the wheel. I've rarely ever seen the zipper merge work.

Perhaps, but memes like that are part of the problem.

I get it: you’re seeing these people go whizzing past you in the right lane, while you’ve been patiently crawling in the left lane, where you merged two miles ago because you knew the right lane was closing.

How dare they speed past you, then think they can cut in line ahead of you like that?

Well, did you think why the right lane was moving so much faster? Because people merged too soon! If they kept using both lanes up to the end, then the left lane would move faster (because fewer people are crowding in it), while the right lane would move slower (because more people are maximizing their usage of it). Both lanes would move at roughly the same speed, so no one would get upset about someone else cutting in line.

If one lane is moving significantly faster than the other, it’s because people merged too soon, ostensibly to do the right thing. This meme implies that people should have merged immediately, leaving a lane empty for two miles. That would be stupid and wasteful.
