Nav Map OTA Updates Disabled

I would much prefer to use the U5 map but I hate the way the Tom Tom map looks. Dull IMHO. I use Waze for the alerts.
My wife has a 2020 Charger and the mapping is done by Garmin, far supperior. It has better color options, has an information line at the bottom that tells youy clearly what road you're on and what city is nearest.
Which is ironic as when I had a stand alone GPS unit that was stuck on the windshield (yes, yes... many years ago!) I preferred the Tom Tom as it was easy to use and, visually, looked good.

Are the 12 inch UC5's the only ones that use TOMTOM?

I'm sure other manufacturers use it as well. But for RAM, the UC5 uses it, including the 8.4" Nav display. The older UC4 does not

Just got off the phone with UConnect customer service. The OTA updates have been disabled by them for unknown reasons. This was the first I had heard about this so I asked when they were going to announce this. He couldn't really answer. **** poor if you ask me because it's advertised as part of the Nav services that people pay for.

Just wanted to post this as an FYI. Until then, manual updates through the Stellantis website and USB drive are the only way.

Thanks for the information. My 2023 Ram Longhorn Limited hasn't updated the mapping since purchased almost a year now. Have paid for yearly subscription for apparently nothing. I am suspect about updating via USB as if something happens, I will be blamed. My dealership checked for updates last month while in for service, and I was told it had the latest update released 07/07/2023. They told me to call U Connect which I did. Received the usual high call volume recording and opted to have them call me back which never happened. Went on Twitter (X) and complained. Received the customary reply we're sorry and to contact customer care. I guess when my renewal comes around in 2 months, I will not renew. Thanks again.

Is there any reason you don’t just use Android Auto or Apple Car Play instead of factory navigation?
You’ll never be reliant on old, outdated maps again.

Hell, I use Apple Maps to drive to work, it’s 5 miles…and I know the way. I just don’t know if there’s an accident, traffic, etc.
On my 2023 Limited, Apple Maps actually also works with turn by turn in my heads up display (I wish Google did, I still like their maps better)

While it's possible to update over the air, I don't believe it's ever happened for anyone - I don't know why they advertise that. Radio firmware updates will happen over the air, but not maps.

I do map updates myself with a USB stick. Follow the instructions, and do the update when you have a 40+ minute drive where you don't need the maps or leave the engine running in your driveway and update. If you just leave it in ACC it will time out at 30 minutes and shut off while trying to do the update. I was lucky the first time as I was sitting in the truck when it timed out and quickly pushed the button to continue the update. Since then I've always made sure to have the engine running when doing an update.

Updates aren't that critical though - old roads don't change, just new ones are built in subdivisions which I don't care about so frequent updates are not a big deal for me.

I pay for it because I can get full screen navigation when I'm in new areas, or half screen with my home page with all the traffic updates when driving locally. I don't care for Android Auto, it only runs in a half screen (smaller actually making it less informative), and it won't let me use my home page with the other features I want while driving. I also have Sirius so I don't really want AA taking control.

I do use Andriod auto, Google maps as an alternative. The reason for my post is for several reasons. I paid for over the air mapping updates for a year, the factory navigation will go full screen and shows upcoming directional changes in the digital screen when you have programed a destination. The main point is I paid for the technology when I bought the truck and Ram apparently was aware of the issue and continues to advertise this option. I don't have Apple products so I'm not sure if Apple Car Play provides a full screen. Tired of being taken advantage of.

Gotcha.
I missed that part.
Yes, Car play is full screen when using either Google or Apple Maps.
Waze maybe full screen as well, but I don’t use it.
