Muffler leak

I started my truck yesterday and had it running for about 5 minutes before I went outside and saw a puddle of water underneath the muffler. I looked under and saw some exhaust coming from the front, top of the muffler where it was condensing and then dripping down from the muffler. It is getting colder up here so I get it may be condensing more water but I have never seen exhaust coming out of the muffler at the weld seam. Someone told me there's a weep hole but I have only seen this type of situation in exhaust leaks before. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

Shouldn’t be coming from the weld. You should get underneath and confirm. It might just look like that’s where it’s coming from. There are weep holes so that moisture can escape to preventing rusting out and you will see some dripping, sometimes quite a bit. I’d verify whether it’s coming from the weep holes or weld. Only way is to get up under there with a light. Other thing is that if it were a leak you would most probably hear it.

Are the weep holes on top of the muffler though? When it’s in 4 cylinder mode going like 30-40 it’s really noisy and I plan on taking it in for that, it makes a loud humming vibrating noise but goes away if I use the gear controller to stay in 8cyl.

Hi Bpiet378,

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. If you end up addressing this with your dealer, please be sure to let us know via PM. We are more than happy to have this documented and connect you with a case specialist for an additional layer of support through that process.

There are 8 weep holes on the exhaust system on your truck.

when you say muffler, are you talking about the big single muffler behind the spare tire? Or those two muffler looking things under the bumper? If it's those ones, they are resonators, each of them have 4 weep holes, two in the front and two in the back.

The tips themselves also have weep holes, though I'm assuming that'ts not where you are seeing water go through.

As for the seeing water coming out of a weld, that's an issue unless you are seeing water coming down from the system and it just happens to look like it's coming from a weld. I would double check to make sure it's actually coming from a weld. If so, a muffler shop can fix that in about 5 minutes, easier than probably going to the dealer.
