So on my way to work this morning and as usual I put it in -8 on the gear select and drive like normal. I was coming down a hill and I down shifted to 7 manually. At the stop light I couldnt shift up to 8 but I could go back down to 1. Shifted to park and then drive again and same thing, only could manually shift down and not back up. Drives normal otherwise and no CEL. Any ideas?

The "manual shift" you are using is actually just a gear limit. It limits the highest gear based on what you have selected. Otherwise the automatic shift schedule is unchanged until the highest gear allowed is reached. From the manual:

"Electronic Range Select (ERS) Operation — Eight-Speed Transmission The Electronic Range Select (ERS) shift control allows the driver to limit the highest available gear when the transmission is in DRIVE. For example, if you set the transmission gear limit to 4 (fourth gear), the transmission will not shift above fourth gear (except to prevent engine overspeed), but will shift through the lower gears normally. You can switch between DRIVE and ERS mode at any vehicle speed. When the transmission gear selector is in DRIVE, the transmission will operate automatically, shifting between all available gears. Tapping the GEAR- switch (on the steering wheel) will activate ERS mode, display the current gear in the instrument cluster, and set that gear as the top available gear. Once in ERS mode, tapping the GEAR- or GEAR+ switch will change the top available gear"

Two things I'd try before taking it into the dealer. Next time you crank it and are in "D", engage the ERS by hitting the "-", then disable by holding the "+" for couple seconds or the gear limiter indicators clear off the display. Put in park and turn off the ignition. Test it, If that didn't work, I know it's a PITA, but you can do a hard reset by removing negative battery terminal for few seconds (maybe longer somebody correct me here if I'm wrong) then reconnect. If that doesn't work, take it in. Regardless, even if one of those two works, I'd mention it to your service adviser next time it's at the dealer.

Might add that IF you do reset with the battery, you will lose a lot of user entered optional settings, especially if you have either of the uconnect screens.

You only need to be in "drive" to select gears, not actually rolling. Sounds like he just had a fluke glitch and should enquire at his next service visit.

Just checked it on my lunch trip. You're right. I could have sworn it was what I mentioned, been a while since I've played with it. But yeah, service visit for sure.

Just a small side note, I had a few gremlins early on with my 5th gen Rebel... but remembering that I had early oddities with my 4th gen Rebel that sorted themselves out as the trucks systems "learned" my driving habits it may be a similar case for you. Don't be surprised if they say all is good. If it didn't throw a code they will dismiss it.

Just don't get frustrated at first... it may never show up again.

Everything went well, brakes fixed and they updated/reflashed for the air bag recall. Couldnt replicate the issue I had of the shifting in manual, but it seems to have fixed itself since that one issue.
