I just picked up a brand new 2024 ram 1500 Laramie with 5.7etorque my oil pressure after fully warming I’m seeing 22psi at idle, is this normal? Seems kind of low to me, would like to know what kind of idle oil pressure newer truckers are getting at idle.

That seems low. At least historically, we are seeing 28-31 at hot idle. 49-50 at moderate constant speed when up to oil temp at around 200F or higher.

I looked at other posts there are few people that are hovering around 22psi at idle, but apparently these trucks don’t have real oil pressure sensor.

For the 5.7L Hemi or the Hurricane? I think the only time I saw a 22psi posting was on the Hurricanes, I've never seen a Hemi with that low an oil pressure.

Not sure about how it's determined with the system, hopefully whatever sending unit you have is simply off instead of being actually low.

My 2019 5.7 has never been close to this psi at idle. I'm at about 38 psi hot. I use Pennzoil ultra platinum oil and a Purolator Boss oil filter. Have you checked your oil to make sure it's full?

I checked the dip stick it’s full not sure why it’s low at idle engine sounds and feel smooth I also own 392 hemi jeep srt im use to seeing 30-31 psi idle

It could just be the sending unit, I would have the dealership check it out to be sure.

Mine is typically 25-30 at idle and if it’s hot like city stop and go towing or highway towing 228-235 it’ll idle around 20-22 psi. Always maintains 47-49 in high gear at highway speeds at normal to hot oil temp. Not worried here. We run marine engines hard with thick oil and they will get down to 15-25 psi at hot idle.

Nothing wrong with 22psi at idle. General rule of thumb for minimum oil oressure is 10psi for every 1000rpm. Could try doing an early oil change, which isn't a bad idea anyways to get the break in wear metals out of the engine. Then see if it changes. Also, the newer trucks are running 0w-20 oil, so pressures may be lower than your 392 that uses 5w-30

I've ran 5W/20 and 0/20 currently, and I've never seen my PSI below 28-29 on the hottest of days idling, averaging 30 year round.

Though I suspect it's not really based on actual pressure and maybe a variation of the sending unit?

I was only using that to show that you can't compare oil pressure to a different engine that uses different viscosity oil

I seriously doubt the dealer will do anything but tell you it's within the normal range.

That's because it is within normal range.

Agreed. From what I've read, for the 5.7 20 - 30 is normal at idle and above 30 if above 2000 rpm. However, I've also read 10 psi is the minimum at idle so I doubt a dealer will do anything at all unless your idle oil pressure is below 10 psi. I was always taught a good rule of thumb for acceptable oil pressure was 10 psi for every 1000 rpms.

Yep, that's the accepted general rule for oil pressure

From the 5.7 technical specs😲
