Loud noise and vibration from Ram

I have a 2019 Ram with just over 600 miles on it. I just experienced the low, but loud vibration sound that people are experiencing on this forum. It started while pulling out of a parking lot. As I drive down the road, it kept cycling in and out. You could feel the vibration from the sound. It felt like it was coming from under the car, maybe a tire sound, and it continued in and out every 6-10 seconds. I eventually stuck my head out the window to see if I could hear it outside of the truck, and it seemed to go away. I went into another store, came out and it stopped. Many, many reports on this forum. Anyone know what it is? I made a video of it...it is a lot lower in volume on the video than it actually is in the cab, but you can hear it go in and out.

I’m very nervous about what this is and why people are having this issue. Hopefully, someone from Ram who is monitoring this site will see these videos too.

I listened to your video and could not tell much. You might post a little more details about your Ram similar to what I have in my signature as that might help some of the posters help you. I am fairly new here myself and had a few bugs to work out, but I don't think that is related to a tire as mine was, but mine was a vibration and "bounce" from a bad tire and not the noise like your having.

I also couldn’t hear any unusual sound from your videos. My guess, is it’s your MDS kicking in and out (at slow speeds, the motor shuts down 4 cylinders, and only runs on the 4 other remaining cylinders. This MDS system is designed to increase fuel economy, while cruising at slower speeds or on flat stretches of roads). The MDS system, is only on the 5.7L v8 HEMI.
Mine does this as well, but mine is barely noticeable for sound and vibration, and only kicks on when I’m driving through town (around 35mph) or 35-65mph on a flat highway with no headwind.
Pay close attention to your dash display (lower left center) when you hear the noise kick on, you will see a small “ECO” (green color) notification pop on. Give it a little more throttle, the noise disappears and so does the “ECO” alert. My 2010 Ram had MDS also, but was much more apparent in noise and vibration while in ECO mode.
If none of this helps for identifying the noise/small vibration or doesn’t seem/sound like the MDS kicking in/out, I’d take it to the dealer. But from reading your question of concern, that’s the first thing that comes to mind..
Sorry, guess I should have asked if the noise & vibration comes and goes with changing speeds while driving, or if it’s a constant noise and vibration?

"Many many" reports?? Of what??

You may have better luck posting in one of those other many, many threads. Sounds like MDS drone to me. Maybe the ANC acting up. Possibly a little hypochondria.

Ask your service advisor to check the noise cancelling modules mounted in the frame--they have been failing on some new 2019's.

I just bought my ram a few weeks ago. And have experienced this exact droning noise and vibration. It seems to happen when I let off the gas just enough that it appears to drop in gear. I’ve been able to replicate it almost instantly, everytime. 650 miles in and it’s annoying me to no end.

HI mrfigs,
We recommend having your dealer look into this for you. Also, please send us a private message once that appointment is scheduled and we will go ahead and have this documented and escalated for further handling.

I've had it to. I'm at about 2k and it started before I even hit 1k. Only had it happen a few times and always while going low speeds. And it seems like its holding the gear but when it does down shift it continues. Not happy about it at all.

Hi @NavDoc - I am sorry to hear this. To clarify, have you had a chance to address this with your dealer? Please know that we are always a private message away and more than happy to provide you with additional support as you work with them.

It's the active noise canceling. My truck was making the exact same noise. Dealer tried to fix it with an update but it didn't help..kept coming back every couple of months. My fix was to actually clip the wires to anc microphones. Hasn't made that sound since I did that.

There is also a bypass harness on the market if you ever want to return to stock, or de-pin the wires if you want to make yourself crazy

I have 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn. My truck makes a very similar noise when stopped. I have not found another person with the same exact problem. My truck has been in the shop for over a month and they have no clue how to fix it.

I know this is an old thread but I have a 2019 Rebel and I'm experiencing the same issues. Has anyone figured out what the problem is? I tried a bypass harness to cancel the ANC and it didn't help anything. I'm noticing the droning noise at very specific RPM's (1400 and 1900), regardless of what gear it's in. It's happens regardless of whether it's in ECO or not. Hopefully one of you has resolved the problem on your truck and can share.

I got the droning issue fixed yesterday at the dealer. They updated the software to the active noise cancellation module. Look at the attached TSB, it may be for your truck as well.

My 3 week old 2021 ram 1500 hemi is having this issue (humming/vibration), happens only when eco mode/mds kicks in 30-55 mph... The bulletin some are referencing states that it’s for older models pre 2021. Anyone have any experience with this in newer models

I am having this exact same noise in your video on my 2019 RAM Bighorn 1500. This is a certified used vehicle with extended warranty that has 41k miles on it. I also just had to replace the rear shocks as they were leaking and that was not covered by any warranties.
I just had my truck in to a dealer who could not find the problem and I do not want to continue to pay the outrageous diagnostic fees. This noise is embarrassing to drive with and makes me want to get rid of the vehicle which I have only had for 4 months.

How much did it cost to get this fixed at the dealership?

Zero $...sorry it took so long to reply, this retired life keeps me far busier than I would have imagined.
