Leaking rear slider

My rear window slider wasn't cracked either. They told me it was the frame on the window itself that was cracked that was causing the leak. New rear window supposed to be in 01/02/2020. Maybe have my truck back by Saturday lol. It's been at the dealership since 12/17/2019.

Good luck. I know it well. My truck was at the dealer twice for a combined total of 3 months.

Noticed couple days ago the plastic frame inside is cracked, and leaking. It is raining currently and I can see it leaking as I type. I have used the slider several times but am not sure when it cracked.

Add me to the leaking rear window club. I noticed water about to drip and saw standing water above that area below the headliner. I removed the 3rd brake light and it seemed dry and sealed correctly.

I then checked the SXM antenna and noticed after pushing down on it, it pushed out a lot of water and air bubbles. It looks sealed where it meets the truck but obviously not good enough if water is getting under it. I have a video of it, but it won’t let me post it for some reason.

If the slider is the issue, curious to know if they would be willing to swap out the slider for a solid window. The slider is a nice to have but, not a necessity.

Thanks for the reply. I just wonder where the water is actually coming in from. If the metal frame is cracked or not it seems like the water would just run down it anyway but from where. I hope ur repair solves the issue tho. I’m dreading even dealing with this because dealerships always mess something else up in the process of fixing something. My previous ‘17 Charger had both front seat frames replaced and they scratched up the pillars between the doors. I’m prolly gonna hold off on taking this to the dealer unless it gets really bad. It’s just a few drips so far but I gotta say I’d prolly be more aggravated if I wasn’t leasing my Ram.

I was thinking it was the sliding window too from a post above but since I never used mine and the next day I saw the leaking, now I’m not sure. All I did was jinx myself lol.

One the mechanics at the dealership I use pulled the back headliner down and they ran water over the back window and he saw where the window was leaking.

Does the solid rear window have the plastic frame around it? Can anyone confirm?

I have the same issue. Here are photos of the cracked plastic on either side of the sliding window. I think this occurred during the winter due to water leak and freezing temps. I will update after appt. at dealership.

Has the cracks on the plastic above the slider and the XM antenna pushed out water and bubbles just like your situation. What did your dealer do for you? I'm fully covered bumper to bumper on warranties, just curious what they did you for you

Well after that post I really didn’t do anything about it until early summer of 2020. The rear trim piece still wasn’t cracked, so I bought the auto & marine seal as many people have mentioned and applied it to the 3rd brake light housing. Everything was fine until about late September when I noticed the upper rear window trim was finally cracked. I took it in to the dealer and they ended up replacing the rear window. They did damage my truck so be aware of that. They did repair it as good as it could be I guess. It’s not perfect but I’m leasing my truck so I’m not gonna worry anymore about it. I am still waiting on 2 trim pieces. All that aside, the window hasn’t leaked since being replaced.

Still not bad for a piece of mind that it will no longer be an issue. Definitely. A good plan B. I think I’d rather try just putting a dab of rtv on the cracks if it happens again. Would be nice to maintain the original options. But you’re right, there’s something to be said for piece of mind...

It's the use of the rear sliding window. There is not enough tolerance between the frame and the window itself. When you use the window, it will cause stress fractures in the plastic and eventually will crack. It's a QC problem with the manufacturer of the rear windows.

This is the most plausible explanation I've read for the cause on the leak in my 2019. It does have a slider. I use it often for the dogs in nice/cool weather. More importantly, there are 2 vertical cracks on the plastic trim/frame(???). 1 crack on each side of the slider. I taped off the 3rd light and it made no difference. Is this covered under the 3y/36k warranty? I'm hate dealing with dealership service depts, etc...... Wondering if I can get to the leak with some UltraBlack RTV.

However there are folks who never used their window and still got the cracks. I think its also about the stress of the cab being exerted on the window frame as well, such as driving on rougher terrain, off-roading, that kind of thing could also cause it to stress and crack.

Regarding the sealant, there is a member here that did just that and worked fine. If mine does crack under warranty, I will have it noted by the dealership but not replaced unless they have an updated window. I will fix with sealant first, then replace either when they have the updated window or just before my warranty expires. Though I honestly don't want the invasive procedure done on my truck by the lowest rated dealership network in the US (FCA).

If it happens out of warranty, I will fix with sealant and cover the cracks with a black decal and be done with it.

Yes it is covered under warranty, many of us, myself included have had the window replaced. That being said, the replacement looks to be the same design.

My 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 also has a leak, but not sure where it is coming from. I have replaced the gasket around the 3rd brake light, no help. After looking at the pictures on the thread, I went with a flashlight to look for cracks and/or water marks and found none. It looks like the carpet/padding behind the seats is starting to separate from the back. I still see no water marks. Is there a way to get the seat back to come forward?

I also think the cracking of the window surround could be related to water not fully draining out of the area and then freezing. When freezing, the expansion of the water could be causing the framing to crack?
