Kayaking, Boating

hopefully in a weekend or two we will set our kayaks into the water.

Kids love it, especially on a hot day.

We usually do a float lunch and they just think it is awesome to snack on the water. We have a pedal boat also and have had out dinner in the middle of the lake all tied off to the boat. So nice to eat dinner with no one trying to sneak a look at their phones or the tv. Just us and nature.

When we fly fishers see "you guys" coming, we say, "looks like there's a "kayak hatch" starting . . . and we back off onto the bank, change our flies to the appropriate one for "kayaks" and resume fishing when "you" pass ! Fun Times . . .

Of course when I float by in my raft . . . all is good, HA !

That's not me, but that's the raft I'm probably selling now that I have the StealthCraft !

Anyone have any interesting ways to haul kayaks with a travel trailer. One thing that will be easier with the 8' bed, but since the 5th Gen usually has a 5'7 and only goes up to 6'4...just wondered if someone has a cool setup.

Thanks, I have been hoping to see the rack mopar is to have, but even when I saw the red mopar truck at Carlisle it didn't seem real sturdy.

I did see an awesome rack and bed cover at Carlisle, but they weren't selling them, they had just bought it to get people over to look at their line x bedlinen lol.

Are Kayaks only got about 2 miles on them this year. Very sad.

Wife was afraid of the faster waters, and we had a guy drown at our favorite spot, so of course that made her overly cautious.

Hopefully we can get out one more time.

Any experienced kayakers have any thoughts on what temps are too cold to enjoy a float.

We have the itch to drop ours in the water. but have never started this early.

No temp is too cold!! I've had a few setups over the years. Just throwing them in the bed works best. The cap was very nice for camping, but not great when it came time to loading and unloading the boats. That contractor rack was around a hundred bucks on Ebay and was also nice to keep the bed free for gear.

When I had my kayak, we did a lot of bay fishing and our general rule was 110 degrees between water and air temp. on how we dressed for air temp. to be comfortable. If less than 110, our dry suits were required. FWIW, some use 100 degrees as the baseline but we fished many days when the combined temps were only 70-80 degrees and always played it safe.

DD, if I remember correctly, you are in Pa. Water temps are in the 50-60 degree range now in Pa and you’d be fine dressing for the air temps. While you can still get hypothermia in 50-60 degree water, it would take a long time.

Got some kayaking in this weekend against the first change of the fall colors
Got to see a Blue Herring. I clicked 17 pictures, my phone camera only took 2 and only one got it


The 8 foot bed is life changing. Was able to haul the kayaks and tow the camper.

Hoping to get out again next weekend. We are camping for a whole week. And now I can take the kayaks without making 2 trips...we got the bikes in the bed too, with our wood...life changing. Lol
