Is there any way to disable MDS without a tuner/tune?

The MDS kicking in and out was noticeable on two of the three 5th gens we've owned. Even on the one that wasn't really noticeable I could tell if I really paid attention. But on the other two it was definitely more obvious.

The real reason to disable MDS is not about feeling! It's because it destroys your cam shaft and lifters over time. Unless you have a warranty to cover it you should probably be worried about it. My truck is in the shop now getting the cam shaft and lifters replaced and a fight with the warranty company to just replace the whole engine. In $'s, if i had to pay for this out of poclet it would have been over 10k! The dealer even admitted this is a known issue with the rams and to look at measures to disable the mds.

Interesting take, I've heard this before. I've also heard (more frequently) NOT to disable it, haha. There's no clear winner. But many folks seem to agree on the theory that a limited oil supply (especially at idle) to lifters and cam is the cause.
Whatever the cause, the infamous "hemi tick" is too common, that's for sure.
I disabled my MDS (in the tune, using HPTuner) and it was one of the best things I ever did on that truck!!
That’s the problem, lots of theories but no real data on what’s causing the cam/lifter failures. It’s not just MDS lifters that are failing, and even engines without MDS have the same types of failures. I’m not convinced that MDS has anything to do with it. I’m more of the theory of soft cams that are the root cause. I’ve seen cams with damage and the lifters on the damaged lobes are still good.
Like I’ve said earlier in this thread and in others, I don’t disable MDS in an attempt to prevent cam/lifter failure. I just don’t like the idea of an engine only running on half the cylinders or how it sounds. I really don’t care if anyone else doesn’t think that’s a sufficient reason. It’s enough of a reason for me.
