Is there any way to disable MDS without a tuner/tune?

I notice MDS all the time. My wife doesn't. Maybe it's because she's always talking

The MDS kicking in and out was noticeable on two of the three 5th gens we've owned. Even on the one that wasn't really noticeable I could tell if I really paid attention. But on the other two it was definitely more obvious.
