if you have a hemi etorque

I was able to break the tires loose while starting the engine…so that literally can’t be possible :)
I mean to each their own but I want to see an etorque on an engine Dyno to prove the 100-130 increase in torque. I think it's a gimmick advertising ploy.
 
The 5.7L’s Magneti Marelli generator produces 16 hp/49 lb-ft of torque.

The advertised “130 lb-ft” is quite misleading because that number comes from gear reduction.

That would be like advertising that the Hemi w/ 3.92 axle gives you 1,607 lb-ft of torque.

In reality, with 10% tongue weight the 70 lb payload hit will reduce towing capacity by 700 lbs.
Or like advertising that the Hummer EV will put down 12,000 lb-ft.

Regardless, it’s a clever use of such a small BSG/MGU.
 
My two cents here cuz why not. I’ve got the eTorque, didn’t want it but got a great deal on the truck. 29,000 miles later here are my thoughts

The stop start is better than anything I’ve ever experienced from competition, it snaps the motor back to life smoothly, silently, and instantly, more like resuming than restarting if you understand what I mean. Downshifting is virtually unnoticed thanks to the electric motor revving the engine up.

Every once in a while, rather randomly, the stop/start is rough on stop, it feels like something is not disengaging in time when the motor shuts off, I don’t like that but I’ve never had any problems knock on wood. I do wish it had a few seconds of delay so that the engine does not try to shut off for a short two second stop sign, and the high heat and humidity here in Florida makes the lack of A/C on stop immediately noticeable.

Parts shortages and all that is a concern of mine that hopefully none of us have to deal with, it would be nice if the truck would still operate if the 48v battery has an issue ( maybe it does I don’t know )

For the “loss of towing” argument, yeah it does sacrifice the 80 pounds or so off gvwr/gcwr but in practice the eTorque engine is superior, at least according to Ram, as its the motor Ram uses on its “max tow packages”
The only 1500s with 18,200 gvwr have the v8 eTorque.

My personal conclusion, if parts shortages weren’t a major issue I’d get it again.

That’s just another marketing gimmick. They include eTorque to give the impression that it helps max towing.

The real muscle behind the “Max Tow” package is not the engine, but rather the 10.0” (256mm) rear axle.

The rear section of your driveshaft needs to be disassembled and greased, the problem will go away. All ram trucks have this issue

That's not the way eTorque works. It boosts off idle power only, low rpm. According to the FCA eTorque video, it's not engaged after 2000 rpm.
 
I guess I'm in the minority of guys that purposely got one with eTorque. I like it. I barely notice it but to each their own. The only "concern" I'd have is how the auto start/stop is going to sound with a custom exhaust. Could get annoying maybe? I'm honestly not too worried about it though.

Yeah that’s what really gives it the higher gvwr but I’m pretty sure there is some reason why you can only get the max tow with eTorque aside from marketing.

I wonder if anyone has swapped out their rear axle for the bigger one, an extra 1200 pounds is pretty significant.

Interesting, so does that mean the rough stop is from slack in the driveshaft?

I’ve always liked the idea of sitting silently at a stop light and then suddenly hearing the truck restart with a nice exhaust note. I think sports cars sound cool when they restart, and having a quick and silent start system might add to it. I have not done it yet but I probably will get some muffler swap and resonator delete down the road. It might be annoying if it’s really loud but that’s just my guess
 
I have it, I wanted and I really like it. No issues yet-18k miles.

Pure marketing. GVWR is unchanged, only GCWR is increased

there are several youtube videos on e-torque from the guy who helped develop it,,,, it only works on the 1st 1/2 revolution of the tire from a start with up to an additional 140 ft. lbs of torque on the 5.7, as well as helping smooth out the shifts by grabbing the drive shaft allowing not to free-wheel thus taking the slack out of shifting.

ive owned 2 non-etorque 5.7 1500's, before ordering my 2022 I test drove two e-torque trucks, they were indeed extremely smooth on the stop start, best ive ever witnessed, shifts are noticeably smoother as well no doubt.. my concerns were that there are a lot of cases of very low speed stalling and re-starting problems. i purposely ordered my truck with non-etorque and skipped ordering a limited because it was required.
