How To Use AlfaOBD On 2025+

Question:
If we install the new lights using your harness and update the settings in AlfaOBD, will the lights function properly until we are able to visit the dealer for the proxy alignment?
I understand there may be multiple warning lights on the dashboard during that time. I just want to make sure they’ll at least function until I can get to the dealer, just in case.

Yes, they’ll function correctly before proxy alignment.

This is great but a little beyond my capabilities. I'll have to wait for the simplified version to come out.

@Jimmy07 is it possible to retrofit the prior LED tail lamps? the ones that had amber turn signals.

I’m hoping so. I intend to find out, because all of the 2025+ tail lights are ugly.
Just realized this will be a bit tricky. The 2025’s use combined rear lighting (one circuit for brake and turn lamps). The pre-2025 tails use separate circuits for turn and brake lamps.
I’ll have to grab the turn signal circuits from the trailer plug, and also build some type of switchback module so the brake light drops out when the turn signal is being used, all while making sure the BCM thinks brake/turn signal circuit is being used normally.
It’s possible that the trailer tow module will think a trailer is connected, and pop up the trailer blind spot selection, so I’ll have to see if that happens and what to do about it.

@turbom5 had info that witech released an update that would make the aftermarket pass through devices work again, and asked me to try.
I can confirm that we can connect to witech and do a proxy alignment using the RLINK j2534 X7. You need a one month VIN subscription, and a 3 day tech authority subscription to be able to do this (more info on that in post #5).

A few years ago, I bought this OBDII ELM interface (see photo) for my Yamaha yz450.
I always used it only to see errors and now I'd like to see errors of my RAM Rebel X my2025, but after connecting with my smartphone and the OBD app, the program's response is "vehicle NOT connected".

Perhaps the OBD socket of the RAM my2025 is protected by Stellantis ?
Thanks

Good afternoon @Jimmy07. Thank you for the great write up. I have a 2025 Big Horn RWD with the 8.4 radio. I have used Witech 2.0 VIN monthly subscription with the 3 day techauthority along with the Topdon Rlink J2534 without issues.

I will try Alfaobd tomorrow when I get the OBD2 Splitter I just ordered. I also have an Otofix IM1 Scanner (essentially an Autel) that I will use to test if it can keep Secure Gateway open thru Autoauth.

I have a question Jimmy07, when doing the Proxy Config. Alignment is there any specific ECUs I need to select? I saw the screenshots and it looks like on one screen you selected DDM and in the next DTCM.

Thank you!

These are the ECUs my BigHorn Trim has:

That might have just been how I had the mouse hovering when I took the screenshot.
Don’t select any modules. Just go to guided diagnostics, proxy configuration alignment, and keep selecting continue, following the instructions along the way. It will ultimately automatically align every module that needs it.

Thank you Sir. Much appreciated!!

This is great news, we have sent out a couple programming events to the dealer to get done because of the witech issues.

Looking to do the following changes (coding) with AlfaOBD. If anyone has any insight please advise and if not it gives you some ideas:

BODY COMPUTER:
-> Car configuration change:
--> STOP& START = NOT PRESENT (DISABLING START STOP)
--> DAY RUNNING LIGHT (DRL) = ABSENT (DISABLING ALWAYS ON LIGHTS) *CANADA
--> DRL TURN LIGHT STRATEGY/DRL DROP OUT - ABSENT (STOPS TURNING OFF HEADLIGHT WHILE SIGNAL BLINKS)
--> TPMS (ABSENT) - USEFUL IF WINTER TIRES WITHOUT TPMS OR OTHER, LIKE ME WHO HAS A REBEL AND WANTS TO RUN LESS THAN 55PSI ON NON FACTORY TIRES AND WHEELS TO GET RID OF WARNING, UNLESS SOMEONE KNOWS HOW TO PROGRAM A LOWER TIRE PRESSURE TO THE TPMS SYSTEM)
-->TPMS CONFIGURATION - NAFTA DISABLE WARNING
--> NOT COMPASS: TIRE CIRCUMFERENCE, MM - TO SET A LARGER TIRE SIZE THAT I HAVE SO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS CORRECTLY AND SPEEDOMETER IS ACCURATE
--> SECOND BATTERY TYPE - NONE (GOOD FOR REMOVING AUX BATTERY LIKE I DID INSTEAD OF PULLING FUSE F52)
--> DRL LAMP LOCATION - NONE (GOOD IF YOU WANT TO SPECIFY THE DRLS) - WOULD LOVE TO HAVE DRL OPTION TO CHOOSE ON OR OFF AND THEN THIS SETTING CAN CHOOSE WHAT IS THE DRL
--> FRONT PARKING LIGHTS TYPE (LEDS) - I CHANGED FROM HALOGEN TO LED ON STANDARD 2025+ LIGHTS AND THINK THIS MIGHT ALLOW FOR NON CANBUS READY BULBS
--> REVERSE LIGHTS TYPE - LEDS (SAME AS ABOVE)
--> REAR LIGHTS DIAGNOSIS (ABSENT) - HOPEFULLY REMOVES LIGHT ERRORS FROM SOME LED BULBS, EVEN THOUGH I AM RUNNING ALL AUXLIGHT LED CANBUS BULBS I CAN FINDING AN ERROR INTERNALLY WHILE SCANNING WITH XTOOL THAT SHOWS REAR TAIL LIGHTS BULB ISSUE.
--> UNINTENDED IDLE ALERT PRESENCE (THIS WOULD REMOVE THE MOST ANNOYING TRIPLE HONK AT EXIT WITH TRUCK RUNNING.)
--> KEY-IN WARNING - ABSENT (HOPEFULLY REMOVES THE ANNOYING BEEPING WITH DOOR OPEN AND TRUCK RUNNING)
--> DRIVER BUCKLE SWITCH - ABSENT (HOPEFULLY REMOVES SEATBELT WARNING
--> SEAT BELT REMINDER (SBR) UNIT PRESENT - ABSENT - SAME AS ABOVE
--> SPEED LIMITER THRESHOLD (I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD NOT BE MODIFIED AS @Jimmy07 ADVISED (THE GURU) IN ANOTHER THREAD TO NEVER MODIFY THE SPEED LIMITER IN BCM BUT IT HAS TO BE DONE IN PCM. )
--> BAMBI MODE?? - DIDNT SEE OPTION TO DISABLE FOG LIGHT DROP OUT FOR HIGH BEAMS.

What I didnt find and was interested in was TPMS adjust pressure setting (REBEL trim is set to 55psi all around which is absurd for an empty truck especially when you change the wheels and tires)

For the cost of buying everything and paying for the sub and doing it at home to avoid dealer issues with my modified truck, I am thinking this list gives me enough to justify the cost. However, I wish we had more customization.

Disabling auto start stop alone is worth it along with the annoying triple honk, key in ignition and ideally being able to change tire pressure and circumference and enable option to turn DRL off in trucks without that option (Canada).

Any information and advice on this please share ! Thank you everyone and special thanks to @Jimmy07 for making this a reality for us on the Atlantis CAN-FD system.

I have the green rlink posted above and plan to see if I can run Alfa and witech at the same time to see what will happen.

My goals are to get heated/vented front seats and heated rear, heated steering wheel, premium overhead, and upgraded door panels. I believe the door panels besides switches and wiring harness will be plug in play as the door modules are the same

Alright, here’s all the info on how to use alfaobd on these 2025+ 1500’s. For those of you who are familiar with using it on previous Rams, Jeeps, Dodges, etc, this is going to be very different, and at first seem a little overwhelming.

The modules (ECUs) in these 2025 trucks use a proxi configuration, which isn’t anything new (Jeep Cherokees, Promasters, Darts have used it for years). This means that pretty much any module you replace or add, or any change to the BCM configuration, you have to perform a proxi alignment afterwards. The proxi alignment basically tells all the modules what the vehicle configuration is by “aligning” them all. A telltale sign that a module is not aligned on the vehicle is a flashing odometer.

In a nutshell, there’s three steps to making any changes with alfaobd:
1- Unlock the security gateway
2- Make the changes with alfaobd
3- Perform the proxi alignment (alfaobd can’t do this)

Unfortunately, the dealership is going to be the most practical option for most people for getting the proxi alignment done. So, realistically, you should make an appointment with the dealership for that first, then install parts and make the alfaobd changes closer to your appointment date.

UNLOCKING THE SECURITY GATEWAY

Unlike the gateway on previous Rams and other vehicles, there is no way to physically bypass this gateway via wiring or bypass blocks. You have to unlock the gateway using a scan tool that is capable of FCA’s AutoAuth gateway unlock service. The scan tool doesn’t permanently unlock the gateway, it only unlocks it for the diagnostic session while the tool is connected to the vehicle. This means that to use alfaobd with the gateway unlocked, you need two devices plugged into the OBD port at the same time, so you’ll need an OBD splitter.

Things you’ll need to unlock the gateway:
1- OBD splitter- Amazon.com

2a- Set up an AutoAuth account- AutoAuth

2b- Buy an AutoAuth subscription ($50/yr). This is for a one year subscription to unlock the gateway on an unlimited amount of VINs an unlimited amount of times. You can register up to 5 scan tools to it.

3a- Xtool Anyscan A30M scan tool- Amazon.com

This is the cheapest tool that I’ve used that was able to keep the gateway unlocked while alfaobd is connected to the truck.
I can verify that Topdon Topscan can’t do it, and Launch X431 Elite can’t do it.
If you already own a scan tool that utilizes AutoAuth, I’ll leave a note at the end of this gateway unlock section on how to verify it is keeping the gateway unlocked while connected to alfaobd.

3b- Anyscan app for android or iPhone. This is the diagnostic app that interfaces with the Xtool.

3c- Register the Xtool serial number to your AutoAuth account so it’s ready to use for unlocking the gatewa

UNLOCKING THE SECURITY GATEWAY (Continued)

Once you’ve got the AutoAuth account, subscription, Xtool registered to AutoAuth, and Anyscan app downloaded, you’re ready to unlock the gateway.

Plug the Xtool into one of the ports on the OBD splitter, then plug the splitter into the truck’s OBD port, then put the ignition in run.

Open the Anyscan app, and perform any updates, and download the vehicle drivers, which will take about 10 minutes. Once that’s done, you can click diagnostics, and follow the pictures below:

When you reach that last screen, don’t click OK. Just leave it, and move on to connecting alfaobd.

**NOTE- For trying other scan tools to keep the gateway unlocked:
Obviously, the goal is to use the cheapest tool to unlock the gateway, since that is it’s ONLY function in using alfaobd to make changes. If you already own a tool that is AutoAuth capable, here’s how to see if it is keeping the gateway unlocked while alfaobd is connected to the vehicle:

Go through that tool’s steps to connect to the vehicle and unlock the gateway, connect alfaobd to the vehicle, make a backup of the proxi configuration, then try to restore vehicle configuration using that proxi backup file (this will all make more sense once you read through the next section on using alfaobd). Once you choose the proxi backup file from the list, if it does not almost immediately say completed successfully, then the tool you are using locked the gateway back up once alfaobd was connected.

If you do have success with other tools, no matter how much they cost, please post what it is so we all know, and in case others already have the same tool.**
Hello , im very new to everything I work at CDJR and I have recently gotten alphaobd , im looking for a list of scan tools that will allow alpha through on a splitter has anyone had luck finding any kind of list? Mainly will autel or maddox scanners work? any knowledge of any scanner will be helpful, if it did work , if it didn't , thank you in advanced
