HOW TO: Add Digital Rearview Mirror

Well, I installed the mirror (68519222AA) the other day in my 2019 DT and made a bracket to mount the camera (68448640AA) on the rear glass of my Leer Topper.

I can plug into the existing harness for my Dimming Mirror with Auto High beams and the Mirror powers on properly with the key. I Also used the dongle I showed earlier and it works fine too.

So, my question is what am I missing by not using the BCM?

I did run into cable length issues using RG174. After about 20 feet or so the signal loss kicks off the camera. I think I may make a RG314 and see if it is better.

This is concerning since the second input for the trailer I ran to the rear as well and I'm assuming that if I add additional cable for the length of the trailer It'll drop the signal due to loss.
Any pictures of the bracket you made? I’ve been contemplating doing the same.

Any info about that adapter? Like a link to it? It must send the same signal that the BCM does.

Here is the bracket.

My adapter came with the mirror I purchased from Robert over at Truck Reboot.

Honestly from what I can tell about the adapter it's just taking power and ground from the vehicle plug and adding a switched ignition output to it for the mirror. My truck has the dimming mirror with auto high beams and was already pined out this way along with a LIN Bus wire.

I could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me.
