How often do you change your engine oil?

So, I just towed a 6k lb trailer, 2-5 hours trips back to back, I'm getting ready for a big trip, about 16 hours of towing over 2 days. Should I change the oil before the trip? 5.7 hemi, e torque, 2022 25k miles. Thoughts?
I change @ every 5k regardless of towing, but if it makes ya feel better, it can't hurt.

16 hrs towing is 950 - 1000 miles on average for me. If I’m towing and know the round trip will put me over 5k miles between changes I’ll change prior to leaving even with as little as 3,500 miles on the oil. Oil is cheap and towing is the most stress oil will be subjected too.

62 MPH? You drive slow. 🤣

Towing a 7k# 24’ enclosed car hauler alone from upper Midwest through Milwaukee, Chicago, Indianapolis, Dayton, Charleston, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Raliegh to Dunn NC averaging 60+ for almost 1000 miles straight through with three 20 minute stops for fuel / rest room is tougher than you might think. I’m in my 70’s and last did this in 2023 towing this same route many times in prior years.

I usually go the 10,000 miles mark with full synthetic as well. Honestly, it all depends on the oil you're using and the driving conditions. Some oils can go longer, but I’d recommend checking your oil every few thousand miles to make sure it’s still in good shape. Just my two cents on how often to change oil.

Nice to still have a dipstick so you can put eyes on the oil

My 1sth oil change was at 1K then every 5K or 6 months after that. The 3.0L it's much easier to change than the 5.7L.
Interesting that GM's recall fix for the 6.2L is to go from 0W-20 to 0W-40 oil or replace the engine depending on the diagnostic code.

That's no fix it's a band-aid.

it's not even a band aid. i have it on good authority. the cranks were produced in mexico and they didn't clean the shavings out of the oil passages. no amount of oil is going to fix it. replacement motors are locking up as soon as they are started. now that cheaper labor isn't as cheap as they thought.
875000 cranks......

Sooo glad I didn't follow through with getting a 6.2L GMC 1500 this year.

I change mine every 5K on full synthetic. Everything I have been reading and seeing from quality mechanics out in the field are saying the manufacturer intervals are getting to long for those wanted to keep their vehicles pas the warranty period and causing unscary engine problems.

ya i have a good friend that is a former GM mechanic and is now a service writer at a chevy dealer his wife is a sales person at the same dealer. he has had to go pick up tech's on the side of the road with the motor locked more times than he can count after a motor replacement and quite a few didn't make it out of the shop. he spoke to a engineer at GM about the issue and that is how he got the lowdown on the cranks. he claims GM investigated the issue and traced it down to the cranks so he is totally confused about the oil change recall.

Wow that crazy. What a disaster.😲

To think us Hemi owners are so worried about minor cracked exhaust manifolds/broken bolts and such. At least the motors are somewhat bulletproof. I’m on my third Hemi and approaching 300,000 miles among them with ZERO issues. Never even been in a shop once for anything.

Hi guys,

Im putting my truck for a oil change service this coming weekend. Anyhow, I will be using Full Synthetic Motor Oil. Been chatting with a couple of my friends and they all say they change out their oil service every 10000 to 12000 miles if using Full Synthetic. How bout you guys? when do you change out your oil if running full synthetic?

Thx.
