Agreed. Now that I have the MFT, I don't know that I could ever go back.I agree. I think that is the best tailgate of all the manufacturers. I wish it was standard.
What is your definition of forward?I use my Mopar bed step. It has to be the most useful function on my truck. It is much better than the cutouts in the bumper on the Chevy's. Those cutouts are too high and they are very awkward to use when you are getting out of the bed. I can walk right out of my truck facing forward with the Mopar bed step.
He's talking about using the Mopar bed step. The cutouts in the Chevy bumper are way higher than the Mopar bed step. So if truck is lifted, you are stretching to get to up to it from the ground. The Mopar extending bed step is awesome. Much better design and lower to ground making entry and exit of bed much easier. Plus you can see it, and you are feeling for a cut out in bumper with you footWhat is your definition of forward?
If I face forward and try to walk out I end up jumping and almost dying (depend on the lift).
I need to turn around and walk backwards to exit the bed.
The cutouts in the Chevy are way better idk what you're smoking.
I walk forward on my Mopar step all the time. Step one foot off the tailgate and then my heel lands on the step then other foot to the ground. Nothing hard about that. What is your definition of forward?

Looks like Chevy improved it a bit but still a much higher reach to step up.I walk forward on my Mopar step all the time. Step one foot off the tailgate and then my heel lands on the step then other foot to the ground. Nothing hard about that.
Nice thing with the Mopar step is you can use it with the tailgate down. Try using the Chevy bumper steps when down.
They cutouts in the Chevy bumper are butt ugly and that’s coming from a Chevy guy for many years. I didn’t even need to smoke something to come to that conclusion.

I feel this on a personal levelI get the top half of my body on the tailgate, swing my legs up, then curse loudly as I army crawl under the tonneau cover.

I don't understand what you mean. I don't mind the look but cosmetics are user preference.I walk forward on my Mopar step all the time. Step one foot off the tailgate and then my heel lands on the step then other foot to the ground. Nothing hard about that.

Nobody here is taking about the MFT. Just as @HSKR R/T and @Dewey stated, the Mopar bed step for the standard tailgate is far superior to the Chevy bumper cutouts. You can barely get 1/2 of your foot into those goofy Chevy cutouts and getting out of the bed you have to back out and take a blind stab at trying to find the cutout. With the Mopar bed step, I can walk right off of the tailgate onto the step.Getting in it might be easier, but harder when getting out of the bed.
I'm not sure how different getting down from the MFT is compared to the regular tailgate, but it's a god damn death trap unless you are walking backwards out, I can never get my foot to touch the step until i'm falling out and hope I don't snap it by essentially jumping down onto it with all my weight.
Maybe these pictures help show the problem i'm referring to.

Need to step out left foot first while bending your right knee to land on the middle untextured\gripped section, to then bend your left knee to land on the right side step

How do I land on this? The top of the bumper sticking out is not possible to land on, and the step is under my tailgate, if the bumper was bigger or had cutouts where the foot goes completely inside (until you hit your leg on the cutout) it would be better.

This is what my 2018 has
You can clearly access it with the gate down or up...

I also installed 2 stakes on each side to grab on as handles if needed.
The bumper itself is also large enough to my put entire foot on and be stable, the Ram's bumper is very short and I can only fit maybe 40% of my foot on it if even so it's not a safe place to stand.
I guess what i'm trying to say here is the Ram should have cutouts in the bumper AND steps available to be installed.
I currently don't have a way to access my tailgate if I drop it down like normal, as I have a MFT step installed from the factory which is not accessible when using the tailgate as normal.
Having another step (which can't be installed at the same time) or cutouts would allow me to enter and exit my truck with either of the 2 tailgate methods being used.
We are talking about the regular bed step on the corner of bumper that extends out. To compare the MFT step in your pics to the Chevy bumper is asinine. Open the MFT style tailgate up on a Chevy truck and the cutouts in bumper would be almoat useless.Getting in it might be easier, but harder when getting out of the bed.

70-80% of my boot could fit into the Chevy cutout, and i'm a size 10.5 wide.Nobody here is taking about the MFT. Exactly... The ram should have cutouts and a step, or some other method where the step can be slid to different positions and locked in.To compare the MFT step in your pics to the Chevy bumper is asinine. Or both styles of bed step, which can be done as I've seen a truck with both. And the corner bed step by Mopar is far superior than any silly bumper cut out that still sits way to high for anyone tht isn't 6'+ to reach on a normal height 4x4, let alone a lifted truck70-80% of my boot could fit into the Chevy cutout, and i'm a size 10.5 wide.
This thread was about accessing your bed, I didn't realize people with MFT arent allowed to access their bed.
I have a OEM Mopar bed step on my MFT, but it sucks beucase it only works for 50% of the time when I open my bed.

As far as the cutout in MFT, they could just put a cutout to the left side of the license plate for your foot to go into... or at least make the bumper larger to fit a foot.
I don't have a welder or know how to weld. I can't install both steps.Or both styles of bed step, which can be done as I've seen a truck with both. I can see how the center step with MFT would be harder to hit "walking" off the bed. But the corner one is easy to see and hit
The truck I saw it on was from factory. Wasn't welded by anyoneI don't have a welder or know how to weld. I can't install both steps.
I have seen the thread of someone that did that, it's not very simple or accessible for most people.

That is a great deal, saw them well over $1000 before I found this from a used car dealer who didn't know what he had.I got mine for $600 BNIB.
I recall seeing a thread about that. The truck I saw it on was from factory. Wasn't welded by anyone
I haven't been under the truck of one with the MFT step, so I can't confirm or deny anything.I recall seeing a thread about that.
If I recall it was a truck that was built for someone who worked for Ram or somehting.
I have not seen a SINGLE truck with both steps, especially from factory as you can't install both steps using the OEM method and you need to custom make additional parts to get them both mounted (as they use the same screw\bolt to mount on) from what I saw.
Find me instructions that don't involve buying spare metal and welding on how to mount a side step, with an existing bed step and ill shutup.
