Horrific Gas Mileage Hemi eTorque

based on my mpg, i am not sure i want those 3 updates .. and i have been running E15 for the past 3 years, in both our tundras and now the ram, and the results have always been very good ... guess i am just lucky

Sometimes better to be lucky than good :-)

Be careful the dealership doesn't sneak those updates into your car on your next oil change.
 
Rapid Response Transmitals

These are updates that are performed anytime a vehicle goes in for service. Not exactly a recall but an an enhancement or fix to improve operation or reliability.

The eTorque Hemi has 3 RRT's available that relate to the mild-hybrid system and powertrain. I had mine done and haven't seen any negative affects.

I stopped by my dealer and they confirmed that do have those RRTs. I have a short list of things to be done as soon as they get all the parts in. You said you have not seen any negatives, have you seen any positives with the RRTs performed already. Thanks.

it's always better to be lucky .... good runs second place most times...
sneaking unwanted updates on my truck has lead me in the past to take my truck to non-dealers for service ... had problems once with my 2005 dodge 2500 and never went back
 
I think you'll be safe with these updates. Ram can create test cases, but the real world will bring up situations that nobody really thought would be a possibility. They've had more time and more user data to improve the overall system performance.

I'm getting the updates on Monday. Luckily I'm hovering around 15 so it's not as bad as some. I'll update afterwards (2019 Bighorn, 5.7 eTorque, 3.92 rear axle)
I averaged 21.5 on the way home from the dealership. Too early to tell of any full tank (city/Highway) mpg but seems promising so far. Also, nearly imperceptible drag downhill and cold start shifts are smoother. So far, no negatives. Not yet an "OMG this is awesome" instant reaction but I'm liking it all so far.

If it's done right, you should just be able to enjoy your vehicle without noticing much of anything. There's a normal expectation that things should just work.

I agree. I am looking for improvement advice the "just work" bar since these RRTs were intended to improve performance and MPG

My fuel economy is unchanged after the updates. I haven't noticed the surge forward I was getting if I jumped on the gas to quick on a restart at a traffic light. That was rare and my driving habits have adapted to etorque's behavior...so I'd have to make it do that to see if it's fixed.

When I was at the dealership the service advisor read the RRT screens out loud and that's the gist of them. I can't find the actual documents online

I drove from Austin to Houston. Averaged 15.2 going 80-88mph. I even hit 100mph once. I’m sure if I drive 55-60 mph on that trip, it would have been 20mpg. Forget that though. That’s too damn slow.
 

Hahaha. I see what you did there. But for real, let’s see. I did 80-88 and got 15.2 mpg. I’ve done 70-75 from Austin to Dallas. and gotten 18.3 mpg on my last trip to Dallas. 55-60? Well, it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out. I just don’t know how some people drive 55-60 on the highway on cruise control. That’s just too damn slow man. I feel like a snail. Fu** that. At least do the damn speed limit. I’m not rich but I got some bills. Enough bills to pay from some more gas. You don’t buy a Hemi to not hear it roar. Let that motherf**** roar!

Your numbers match fairly well with what I get in my Durango, and that has 3.09 gears and is a bit lighter and smaller.

So idk, it seems right to me.

I am with all of you, avging 15 mpg in 2019 is surely NOTHING to brag about, (especially with A "QUOTE unQUOTE" hybrid -yikes! almost embarrassed to even say THAT aloud- lol) that is around what i am getting as well, give or take....

BUT, the saving grace is that last week on my weekly fill up (use around 10 gallons a week) my total at the pump was 18 bucks, price was 1.79 a gallon here in Texas, so my MPG's might be at an "all time low" but so was the PRICE of my gas (at least for now : )

what i did to "quit letting it be the ONE drawback" in an otherwise perfect truck is change the settings on the cluster so my less than stellar "avg mpg" isn't in my face 24/7...lol

This was a one way 17 mile drive, all city and backroads. Reset the MPG when I left my origin and took pic at final destination. Normal driving while paying attn to how much throttle I was giving it. Never going more than 10mph over the posted limit. I think it’s pretty good and I was also able to beat the EPA estimates for city.

o_Oprice was 1.79 a gallon o_O $2.49 - 85 Octane, $2.65 - 87 Octane here in New England :(

At least tell me that's for 85 Octane...
 
Funny how my 4th gen with level and 35’s still beat the **** out of this stock 5th gen rebel in mpg lol.
