Hi, do u tow with yours?I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow. I have an appointment to have a set of BFG KO2s put on (285/65/20). I have a Laramie with Air Suspension. I've had 2 sets of BFG KOs on my last Ram and I won't buy anything else. also, I believe the 285/65/20 are about $300 less than the 285/60/20.
Is there any rub against your uca with the 285'S, I have 275's and it insanely close to the uca, about a pinky finger width (a small pinky finger)+1 for the 285/65/20…perfect fit, zero rubbing:

Ehhh, that might be cutting it a little close. I would say 2” minimum is the best bet for a larger size tire. But from what I have seen on here, OR2 on the air suspension might be the equivalent of a 2” lift? But you’d have to lock the air suspension in to that setting to not make it rub. Is that even possible to do?Hey everyone I’m sorry this has been beat to death. Just a lot of money before I hit the order button.
I have a 2020 Limited with air suspension, and don’t have the off road package. Will BFG AT’s 285/65/20’s fit totally stock no rubbing?
Or should I do 275/65 to be safe?
thank you all!
Thanks for the reply, as far as I know you can’t lock the suspension in or1 or 2. When you hit a certain speed it puts itself back in normal mode
I used this tool to visualize the differences. 1/2 inch taller and little over 1/4 inch wider if I am reading this right. My kid hit a curb and blew out one of my tires today. I have a 2020 Laramie with air suspension. I need to buy new tires asap. I am seeing a lot of conflicting info about the stock air suspension and tire sizes. I am seeing 275/65/20 is the safe bet but maybe the 285's maybe not. I am in Colorado so I hate the BFG all season sedan tires it came with. I need an AT tire and a lift/ new wheels are out of the question.
Thank you that helpt to visualize the differences. I am still looking for someone that has the 285 on stock air suspention. I would like to avoid the cost for level kits and installation. Basically stuff the largest tire I can even with some trimming of plastics. So much conflicting information out there and so many different truck options to take to account. Coming from the jeep world it was so much easier. I think I am just not searching for tge right terms.I used this tool to visualize the differences. 1/2 inch taller and little over 1/4 inch wider if I am reading this right.
275/65-R20 vs 285/65-R20 Tire Comparison - Tire Size Calculator | Tacoma World
285/65-R20 tires are 0.51 inches (13 mm) larger in diameter than 275/65-R20 tires and the speedometer difference is 1.5%www.tacomaworld.com
There was a black truck back towards the beginning of this thread. He didn't say he had air in his post, but his Signature line said his truck had air. He was the guy who went form 285's to 275. I didn't quite glean the reason he went down. My assumption was that he off roaded and at odd angles he got rubbing. My main concern with 285's is rubbing when turning off-road and then Ice/snow buildup in the winter.Thank you that helpt to visualize the differences. Look on page one for a post from Webbd30. That is the post I am talking about.Thank you that helpt to visualize the differences. Good to know. I didn't realize the ORP did that with air ride. I know without air it give you an inch, but thought with air it was stock till you turned on the Off-road air settings. He has the ORG which raises his truck an inch or two in addition to his air suspension it appears.
Your going to need to get a wheel Spacers or different rims at some point even with that little space between the uca and tire, take a sharp turn at 50 mph and see what happens. (ASK ME HOW I KNOW) I had to get a .25 Spacer for stock rims and it still will rub at excessive speed on tire at sharp turns. Yes I could slow down, but what's the fun in that. Drive fast, live shortI have 295/65r20 on stock wheels, using motofab 2.5" leveling spacers. No rub anywhere. The front wheel wells are pretty large so tire height isn't really an issue, it'll become an issue when turning and the tire tries to clear the front of the wheel well and back of the well where the little mud flaps are.
Level helps clear those areas. Next area of concern is the inside tire sidewall to the upper control arm/ball joint. Stock tires i could squeeze my fingertip between. After level and slight change in angle i can still fit a fingertip between with the wider tires. A 12" wide tire may fit, but a 12.5" would rub.
I have 3.21 gears and my mpg is still really good all things considered. Mixed driving of about 60/40 highway/city i'm averaging 16.5 to 17. Highway cruising at 60mph i'm in 8th gear hitting 22mpg. Flat louisiana roads. 70mph on the interstate I'm getting 19mpg.
Even with 3.21 gears my truck is still quick. I have "lonestar" which must be very light as I have payload capacity of 1632. Tow about 6k lbs occasionally and can't tell it's there. Just this weekend i loaded my truck down with 30 bags of mulch and squatted it pretty good, and besides the squatted feeling and floating over bumps, I couldn't tell the weight was there and could still break the tires loose. lol.
