Another driver swerved into me while trying to avoid someone swerving into them. Truck took it like a champ, but now I can't open either door on the passenger side. Have to wait until Monday to get things rolling with the insurances. Just fortunate everyone was ok. The way it felt inside the cab, I thought there would be minor scratches on the outside of the truck, I was definitely not expecting it to be caved in!

Also, the ceramic coating did nothing to help, as it even makes taking the pictures difficult! lol.

Glad everyone was ok!

That almost looks like it could possibly be a write off (would be around here anyways as the main cab took structure damage). Guess you never know what insurance companies will say though.

Glad you are OK.

I got hit back in February by someone going about 40 MPH who hit me solidly on the front passenger side nearly head on. These trucks can definitely take a hit. When you look at the video from my webcam it looks like nothing and the damage wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but the sound was crushingly loud.

Here's my thread if anyone is interested: https://5thgenrams.com/community/threads/got-hit-in-my-ram-its-solid.7062/#post-114914

I was thinking that looking at the photos - both doors, bedside and cab structural damage may be enough to do it.

That sucks. Glad nobody was hurt.
In the event that your truck is not totaled, make sure you do your research for a highly rated Body Shop. This is the type of damage that if it's not repaired correctly, It will lead to all kinds of issues down the road.
Also, try to file a diminished value claim with the insurance company. If you ever try to trade the truck in, you're accident will show up on the Car Fax report and you'll take a huge hit.
Please keep us informed what happens. Good luck.

Yea these trucks are tough, got rear ended in stop n go traffic a few days ago. Broke the welds on the other guys bush guard. My truck? Slight dent in the bumper :D

I would think they would write off that truck: bed damage, both doors, cab damage, front fender damage. If you were in my area my guess is that's about $30K in repairs based off the $5K in repairs for my truck when I took it in.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe a new truck is on the way. If the doors don’t open, could be a bent b pillar/frame. Glad you guys are OK

Diminished value claims are a sham. $20,000 in damage and 56 days in the shop/of having to use a rental car after a collision with my Alfa Romeo Guilia last year. I fought StateFarm for diminished value and all you ever heard was, “The vehicle was restored to the same condition(s) it was before the accident, why would it be worth less? There is no case to move forward on.”

I have a good working relationship with my StateFarm agent, but typically, you work with a Team to revolve insurance claims. She said in her 10 years of business at 2 separate offices, she had never seen diminished value paid out in the state of Ohio. I insure 4 vehicles, 5 houses, and possess 2 umbrella policies with StateFarm, so it is fair to say I thought I would be treated with a certain level of professional courtesy.

SIDE NOTE: StateFarm wrote me a check to have my paint correction, ceramic coating and PPF redone to the tune of $2,700 in the impacted areas. They said no at first, I called my installer and he said to call back referring to the work as “permanent fixtures” and that the new panels will not match the rest of the vehicle’s paint. It worked. Having nothing on file for the work that was done prior to the accident, StateFarm accepted my old receipt as proof and accepted the quote for new work. I was even able to use my preferred shop (which was not a StateFarm preferred shop).

On the truck, however, I was proactive and have the quote and receipt on file. Felt I got lucky the first time.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Super happy I'm ok, it could have been much worse for sure. My thought is that it might be totaled because the damage goes up so high on the cab, but I'm honestly not an expert in what it takes to total a vehicle nowadays. I've never crashed (on the road) before, so it'll be a learning experience for sure. If they do fix the truck, I definitely will go for diminished value, and I'll have them pay for another ceramic coating job too after the paint is done.

It's inside the garage right now, as the rear door obviously doesn't seal anymore and I don't want any extra damage being caused by water intrusion if it rains or I drive over water. (I told them I drove it home so now MY insurance company WONT pay for a rental, because the truck is "driveable") But whatever, I want to go through the other side's insurance for everything anyway, so tomorrow is when the process begins.

First, and foremost, I’m glad nobody was injured.

That said, which is it, it can take a hit, or you thought it was just scratched and instead it’s probably totalled?

The way it took the hit while I was driving was impressive. Truck was very calm, controlled, it wasn't even that loud. That's why I wasn't worried about the damage too much until I actually laid eyes on it. Seeing the damage now, I would have thought the in-cab experience would have been much worse.

On a clear day, I can see Seattle from my house.
They don't make vehicles like they used to, and that's a good thing.
Today's vehicles are designed to take these hits, deform in a more controlled way and protect the occupants better than ever.
Happy for you that no one was injured.
On a brighter note: If your insurance company does decide to total it, you can replace it with a Ram that has one of those neat new split tailgates!

Steve
