Today I was underneath my truck attempting to locate the source of a squeaking noise which seemed to be originating from the front passenger side suspension. While inspecting that area I noticed the white sleeve which wraps around my front coil spring appears dislodged as pictured. I attached photos of the driver side spring for reference which appears normal.

Now my question is how to go about fixing this. I’m a mediocre DIY mechanic at best, and have never done anything with suspensions. Would the whole spring need to be removed to correct this or if the truck was jacked up and the suspension was at full sag would that part be able to be manipulated?

Also I was curious if anyone knew if that white sleeve is sold on its own or if I needed a new one would I have to order a whole new spring? I looked on the mopar website but was unable to find anything about that part.

Thanks for reading, any help is appreciated.

In solidarity my RAM brothers,

T Rod

I'm not sure if sold separately, but Eibach sells coils sleeves. You could attempt to droop, but I'm positive you would need to compress the coil for any true fixing. You shouldn't need to remove to fix, just use the tool for compressing the coil.

Thanks for the info! I’m going to go grab a spring compressor now and see what type of shape the sleeve is in. I’m sure it will be too damaged to just reposition it back into place but we’ll see.

Just be careful with the spring compressor. If you are going to rent one of the parts store kits, they can be dangerous if not used properly. And most people don't know how to use them properly. Also, there's a good chance you won't be able to get it on the coil good enough to use with the strut installed on the truck.

I’ve been chasing a squeak that shows up in the front end for a while now and just assumed it was my sway bar and links. But I know for sure the bottoms of my front coils don’t have the isolator rubber on them… Wondering now if maybe that’s where the noise is coming from 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the heads up. I was very cautious when using the compressor lol. Especially since I’m a novice with anything beyond basic maintenance. I was able to compress the spring a bit, but not enough to fully free the pinched part of the sleeve. I did at least get the top portion properly seated back around the coil.

I gave up on it for the time being as I haven’t noticed any difference in how the truck rides or drives, so hopefully it’s not a big issue for the time being. Also I don’t believe it is the source of the squeak I’ve been hearing.
makes sense. hahha im guessing it didn't go away?
try spraying the bushings too.
It actually has quieted down a bit the last couple days. However with my luck that’s just because the weather hasn’t been as humid lately and that’s what seems to really bring it out. So I fear it will return soon enough when rain or humidity comes.

I do believe it is the lower control arm bushing at this point. A coworker of mine looked at it and that was his opinion as well. When I place my hand on that portion of the control arm I can feel a vibration as it squeaks as if something is slightly binding. We tried our best to spray lube in there but it’s a tight joint so who knows how well it worked. Luckily the truck rides and drives normal so even if it squeaks it seems to just be cosmetic at this point.

It’s so hard to tell when I’m under the truck but I don’t think that’s the source of my squeak at least.
