Forward Collision Warning

Here's a little light reading for everyone to explain how FCA has this setup.

My warning goes off at least twice a day or more. But My curvy city streets with cars parked on the side doesn’t help. I have actually had it slam on the brakes twice, which will scare the **** out of you. Once was a slow turning car and I was a bit to close and luckily knowone was behind me. The other was parked cars I was weaving around on a narrow road a bit to fast. Need to check my settings.

New to this site myself, but have found it very useful. I also am experiencing no response to the FCW system. All my setting are set correctly, but the truck has never given me any alerts. I have tried to do a few tests, but I am not ready to wreck my truck to know for sure.

It seems the system is more likely to activate if the car in front of you starts to brake and you don't make any changes to throttle input. Basically act as if you aren't even looking.

Hi all. I'm new to this site and a first time Ram owner. Bought a Limited and have a question about the FCW. I have the settings on but the truck doesn't seem to be responding/braking. The ACC works, but FCW doesn't seem to be. Anybody else having this issue?

I just bought a new Laramie earlier this week and I have the exact same problem. I immediately returned it to the dealer and they said they could not test it because it was raining and that I would have to schedule an appointment sometime in the future.

I have the same problem with my FCW system. To test it I had my wife drive her car at a steady speed while I followed in my truck. I approached her car repeatedly at different speeds and with different settings of the system. I never got any alerts or braking.

I don't think the system reacts to this scenario. I believe it only alerts if the person in front of you starts to reduce speed and you don't change throttle input. The system isn't sensitive enough in my opinion, but I do get alerts when I am approaching cars that are turning right.

I get a blip in this scenario if I have not touched the brake pedal.

I got another from a car decelerating rapidly (slamming on the brakes) in front of me that included a brake application where I did not react quickly enough to the FCW system's liking by braking on my own. It pretty much waits until the last moments to alert.

For those who don't have FCW work properly may be as simple as to recalibrate/ retrace the camera.

Do you have to have the 360 cameras for the forward collision to activate? Rear sensors are super sensitive to the point I had to turn the braking off. Forward collision has never seemed to do anything other then to beep when I’m about 6 inches to someone’s bumper.

Thank you 202snowman! May I ask where I can find the entire manual? It seems like a wealth of info compared to either the OG or OM.

Anyone has an update on the FCW not working? I have my new limited truck for over a month now and not a single warning in any settings or tests. Adaptive cruise control works fine. Just drop it off at the dealer today for them to check it out. Thanks.

I still get warnings, but had to disable the automatic braking. I had it engage once when it over-acted to someone slowing down and turning right from my lane and stabbed the brakes in a reduced traction situation. I reduced the distance to near, and it did it again with someone turning right at a safe distance in front of me.

That was it for me. The sensors do a **** poor job of evaluating the 3-dimensional driving environment and can anticipate nothing. Cross traffic detection on the corners when backing out of a low visibility parking situation can be helpful, but the 'driving aids' need a lot more development before I give up more control.

Follow someone pretty closely 30-35 mph and keep your foot off the brake (no preloading the pedal) until they turn right in front of you - don't slow as if you see them. Helps if they linger in the turn a bit not clearing the road. It does not have to be a dangerous move or all that close. FCW goes off every time for me.

Pretty much like Gman says above. You should get a beep, alert, and a sharp brake poke.

I am very glad to find this string regarding problems with the Forward Collision Warning in the new 2019 Ram. I picked my new Laramie up 2 weeks ago. I can't get my FCW to respond with any alarm warning or braking. I know I have my settings correct and I've tried all 3 distance settings.
I just left my dealer feeling like they have no idea and i must be a Dumb As* if I can't figure it out.
They reluctantly agreed to schedule an appointment for me to bring it in 3 days from now and they will "look at it".
I see a lot of the same problem on this string but no one is saying that Ram has agreed to help or figure out the situation. Is anyone getting any support on this issue?

Mine behaves exactly as you describe. Could not have written up better myself.

No way this works for me. I have the same issue with FCW as some others. New limited and everything is great other than I don't think the FCW is working. It would happily let me drive into a stopped or parked car. Took it to the dealer and they said I just need to trust that if needed it will work. Yeah Right......

Anyone with this issue get theirs working as expected via dealer help?

Mine used to go off all of the time on Far with warning and active braking both checked. I set it to Medium and it doesn't seem to go off anywhere near as often.
