The Route 66 warranty has mixed reviews, just like anything else. Some have had very good experiences, others have not. Most of the negative reviews that I read are due to claims being denied for things that are clearly spelled out as being not covered under the warranty. A lot of people are idiots and they don’t read. What appeals the most to me about a third party warranty is that you can have the vehicle repaired at any ASE certified repair facility, not the dealership. If you find a good repair facility, with a savvy owner who knows how to deal with these companies, it’s pretty painless. Route 66 deals directly with the repair facility and pays with a credit card.
The fact I do know about the FCA warranty is any dealership will fix an issue if I'm traveling anywhere in the country. While I do know a couple decent shops in my area I'm not sure about other parts of the country. I do know, that while there are dealership of less than stellar repute, most can fix issues and do have direct contact with HQ through the star system for advice.
Also, the items I'm worried about are the electronics which are big ticket items and while I know few excellent mechanics, they are limited by the equipment necessary to keep up to date with diagnostics.
Any good shop can rebuild an engine but I rather have the FCA parts chain behind my repair shop.
Again, if it was just rebuild or replace parts, about any decent shop could do that, but finding the issues and having enough resources to support the diagnostics is high on my list.
Lastly, if I have an issue with repairs, I can go to a lot of people from service managers to management, to area reps to the FCA chain of command. While I'd rather not do that the FCA system is a brick and mortar outfit that has any number of entry points and not an 800 number that can just keep hanging up.
As previously, your monkey - your circus
One last question, I looked at their "easy Street" (best) coverage and they exclude emissions and sound reproduction equipment - I hope that doesn't exclude the ECM or my 12" radio. My FCA warranty is not ambiguous as they cover both.
