Etorque left me dead at light

I'm curious if anyone else is having this issue. It's my first two weeks in the truck. If I sit at a traffic light with engine off on auto stop, the voltage gauge slowly drops until the battery light turns on - 30 plus seconds. Normally I don't have an issue restarting, but this morning the engine slowly cranked and started clicking with not enough juice to turn starter. I put vehicle in park, hazard lights on and then luckily had enough power to restart in another 20 seconds or so.

Are other etorque owners with the 5.7L seeing the rapid battery drain? I thought the 48v battery restarted the engine but the voltage gauge makes it look like the 12v system is dying. It's heading to the dealer next week to get checked out.

I have noticed my battery gauge drop while the stop/start is active at a light, but usually it doesn’t drop very far. As soon as I’m moving again the battery gauge moves to its original position. I have never had it fail on me though. I think I might have to do a little etorque torture testing by sitting in the driveway in drive, just to make sure that the engine kicks back on when the battery pack gets low

Mine has never did that. The engine has kicked back on if I sit at a light long enough with the heat blowing and the music pumping. And it always has restarted with no hesitation.

I’ve noticed my voltage drop when off but never not snap right back on. Please let us know what the dealer says.

I’ve not a issue like that to this date. Long enough time sitting with comforts on, yes voltage gauge does go down engine starts back up though. Seems that it needs a run to dealer

There are lots of variables here, but I believe the voltage gauge is tied to the 12V battery. From your description it sounds like it might be bad (or something is horrendously draining it) because after you couldn't restart, and then you could after 20 seconds. That 20 seconds was probably your eTorque battery recharging your 12V battery. Another eTorque benefit.

There have been numerous instances of these trucks being delivered with 12V batteries that died quickly so I'd start there. You need both systems operating for all stop/start functionality.

Hi stubborn1,
We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing this. If you would like any extra assistance while your truck is at the dealer, please send us a private message.

I had an issue like this when I first got the truck. I believe it had to do with my truck sitting on the lot a few months and my battery not being fully charged. A few long trips on the highway recharged my battery and I have never had the issue again.

If your truck would not start from an auto start / stop situation (in Drive, foot on the brake ,etc), then that makes me believe the 48V battery pack is being drawn low. However, it should never get low enough to not be able to start the truck. I've never noticed a voltage drop on mine during lights, I'll see if I can check it out on lunch and report back if my 12V battery drains at all during a normal start / stop event.

Just sat in the parking lot for 8 min and 15 seconds in a stop / start event, where the engine stayed off the entire time, and the displayed battery voltage for the 12V battery never dropped below 14.5V. I had the climate control set to Auto and both zones synced to 70° F (it read 36°F outside temp), coolant temp hovering around 11 o'clock on the gauge, my drivers seat heater was on hi, and the steering wheel heat was on, I was listening to a podcast over bluetooth on my iPhone 8 Plus at a normal volume, the phone charging as well. Just for reference for anyone wondering how the system should work, this is it. The 48V battery charges and maintains the 12V battery as well as directly powering the equipment being used inside the vehicle. After 8 min and 15 sec, the engine fired back up.

Can anyone else check their battery voltage during stop/start?

Just got my truck back for faulty ground connection that caused eTorque to fail and not charge 12v battery. Obviously paying lot more attention to the battery voltage screen right now to make sure issue is definitely corrected.

This morning truck engine on voltage is 14.5. During stop/start it would drop to around 13 and stay there. When I had issue check engine light was on and voltage was 11.9 to 11.7 with everything I could turn off off and dropped more when brake or turn signals used.

That’s about what mine runs. 13.1 at idle after 10 seconds or so and jumping right back up to about 14.5 when running.

My voltage gauge would do this right after I purchased the truck. After I put some miles on it, the gauge no longer dips during startup stop

Interesting thoughts regarding initial charge on the 48v battery. After a few more days driving around this week, I haven't had the issue return. I'm at about 600 miles on the truck now. The voltage gauge will still drop to 12.6v when the engine shuts off, but I haven't had it drop any further as previously it would drop below 12v and the battery light would come on. I was thinking it might have something to do with the outdoor temps because the issue was occurring when 10 degrees or less and has stopped now that we warmed up to the 30s, but the comment regarding an initial charge on the 48v battery system seems to make a lot more sense.

If anything changes, I'll post an update.

Mine has not restarted a couple times also. Quite scary actually. I unhooked the battery and made sure it was charged. After that It stayed at about 14.5 volts when running or when it shut off. After about 700miles since I unhooked the battery, it started dropping down to 13volts when it shut off. A couple times it has dropped below 12 volts and then that's when it won't restart. I took it back to the dealer but they said with no codes and them not being able to replicate it, there is nothing they can do. I went and talked to another dealer, he seemed very concerned, said he was going to talk with his techs when they got back from lunch and get back to me. He never called. I tried calling him a couple days later and left him a message. Still no call. I don't know what to do. I Wish whatever was causing it would completely fail so I could just get it fixed.
