So I have been to 2 FCA dealers to address the problem. Both couldn’t figure it out and one told me it was “normal” because another Ram was doing it.

So I decided to take the truck to a non FCA Garage for a third opinion.

They are telling me it is engine ping.

I am getting a weird sound while accelerating in between 1000-1500rpm. Third gear. Only when

What do you guys think?

What fuel do you run?
Is MDS active when you notice the noise?

89 Octane like the manual says. No the truck isn’t using MDS when this happens.

working with FCA to get this repaired has been a battle over the last 7 months.

they replaced serpentine belt and last week the cv shaft. Thinking that was causing the problem.

biggest issue I have in my area is that the dealers techs are all apprentices or new out of school techs.

makes it a pain in the *** to get. Proper diagnostic.

my truck has 36,000km.

Might be a lifter! Or the bearings that the lifters roll on

Ok, my truck sounds EXACTLY like your second video. It drives me absolutely nuts; almost to the point that I'm about to dump this truck. Took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't hear it; they must be deaf. I think the lifters are bad personally. PLEASE, if you make any progress with this....post a follow-up or message me. This sound alone makes me hate this truck.

Mine does this as well -- under load, the computer is supposed to compensate but the pinging never goes away, I figured it's a lost cause at the dealer because the technicians don't seem to know a whole lot about fixing the problem or don't want to. They only suggested using top tier gas which did nothing.

I have an appointment to have this looked at again on Wednesday. I’ll post what happens. With this being the third time the truck is going into the dealer and having more information on possibilities. I am hoping for a resolution.

I’ll post on this thread if I get a resolution. It’s going on again on Wednesday.

I’ve got a lot more information on the problem going on so I can get them to focus on the motor. Gonna try and get them to replace spark plugs and check lifters.

the sound has been there since 1 month after purchase. Pisses me off cause this truck cost me $68,000. And I can’t give it gas without it sounding like ****.

I was having the same problem for months and I finally tried putting 91 gas in yesterday and it seems like the problem/sound is gone now surprisingly.! I was convinced it was a lifter, but I’m happy that it seems fine now.

Mine makes a similar sound under slight load when MDS is active. I will bring it up when I go for an oil change in about a month.

I've gotten it on and off as well, if I put 93 octane in her it goes away, I'm thinking the computer isn't responding to the engine fast enough to compensate the timing when you apply power.

I also had the similar sound under load. I switched to 93 octane (top tier fuel) this weekend and that rattle has gone away. Also switched to PUP 2 weekends ago for my first oil change and the ticking the engine had has gone away as well.

My truck is making the same noise. Was there ever a resolution to this?

Higher octane fuel seems to be the solution, catch can may help as well

Might be worth taking it in if ping occurs on 93, or try another brand/station. I've had ping occur on some fill ups, makes me question when I press the button on the pump if that's what I'm really getting
