Engine smell for 2019 ram rebel

I’m over 2,000 miles now and still have the smell. It has diminished but it’s still there every time I park it. Everything else is great tho so I assume it isn’t a problem. Hopefully it’s not anyway...

As of today, I still haven't received any word from Chrysler on what they plan to do. I am very disappointed in their handling of this situation. I have recently gotten rid of the 2019 ram rebel that I purchased back in December of 2018. I will never buy another ram truck again. Horrible service from Chrysler and Chrysler cares. They are a joke. I hope that everyone finds a solution for their trucks that have the skunk/weed smell. Good luck to everyone.

Wow you sold the truck because of the smell??!!??

I recently bought a 2019 RAM Rebel in Granite. I too have the issue. My wife and I couldn't figure it out but finally narrowed it down to the truck. My friend is a service manager at my local dealership. There is a case open with FCA on this so hopefully they figure it out. The case number is S1924000006 in case you want it. The release date is 1/22/2019. I love the truck too much to get rid of it for this.

Mine has this as well but it has diminished quite a bit. First couple days was really strong though.

Add me to the list. Late Nov build, purchased Feb 16. Funny thing is right after I got it I swerved around a dead skunk on the road and figured I got a little on me. 1100 miles now and still there but not as bad.

UPDATE: My friend from the dealership said they are going to order a new fan module assembly for my truck. He stated that is what it says to do for the smell. I'll let you know once I have the work done. It will be 3-5 days to get the parts.

I only have a 150 on my truck (Sept build) and took a 30 min Hwy drive , when I stopped it smelled like I was towing a trailer that was too heavy for it and the trans and drive train was stressed.
Maybe its some sort of anti-corrosion costing on the radiator or exhaust system that gives off that smell? AlI know is the truck smelled very hot but yet it was showing normal on the gauge and it was in the high 60's outside.

Yes, I feel that for the price of the truck, I shouldn't have any smell coming from the engine. Also, when you talk to Chrysler and they act like they've never heard of this issue and tell me to work with my dealership until they figure it out. Went there 4 times and they couldn't figure it out and I never heard back from Chrysler or my dealership on a solution to the problem.

I'm over 2k miles and the smell has definitely gotten weaker and weaker. I can also smell it best when it's coming from the front of the car through the grille. I doesn't bug me enough to really want to trade it in or even complain - it DID smell like weed when the car had 400 miles on it though - I thought the sales people had taken it for a little joy ride or something.

I had my fan module assembly replaced this March 28th, 2019 and I have not noticed the smell. I did notice a smell but smelled more like from being at the dealership/new parts. I'll continue to monitor but I believe this may have resolved the issue for me.

I recently purchased a 2019 Ram Rebel back in December 2018. I have 900 miles on the truck and I am getting a smell from the engine when it heats up and it smells like a skunk. It has been to the dealer twice and they can't figure it out. I didn't know if anyone else has encountered this type of problem.
I have new 1500 with 4600 miles and I have the same smell. It has not dissapated as I hoped it would.

Hmm. I also have this smell, but attributed it to the engine being new. I don't really mind it as I park outside. I'll keep an eye on this thread though in case the fan is deemed defective.

This is what they just replaced on mine too.

I have the same smell, but it is getting much fainter after almost 2k miles. I suspect it's nothing but some kind of anti-corrosion or other building material used inside the engine bay during production. Definitely getting fainter, and I don't see any problems anywhere else - engine temp is normal, I can hear the fan run but it doesn't sound bad, etc.

I'm not going to worry about it. Eventually the smell will go away. If it's still there after a year I'll probably bring it back under warranty, but I think it will all be fine. Certainly am not going to get rid of the truck over that - hell, I've probably run over something dead in the road that left worse smell than that before!

My dealer told me the smell was normal. Guess I'll wait to see if it goes away, or if something breaks.

Hi 392DCGC,
We understand why this may be concerning. Please send us a private message if you decide to return to your dealer for this and we will have this documented and escalated for further handling.

You may be on to something, I could see all three of those being possible causes of a rotten egg smell, but I am not convinced any of those are the issue with my truck. I would think a catalytic converter issue would be easily traced and would most likely cause the CEL to illuminate. I would think the same for a broken fuel pressure regulator. As far as engine running too hot, that would mean all my gauges/sensors are faulty. I would say the cat is the most likely of the three in this case, although I am still skeptical. The quote below was stated on another thread regarding the smell and the cat was initially blamed by FCA, but as far as I am aware, it has yet to be resolved. @jimmy9013 does bring up another possibility which supposedly was an issue with coolant and hoses on some 4th gens. Hopefully they will figure out the root cause soon, it seems that this complaint is becoming more prevalent.
This is interesting I just picked up my 2019 RAM Rebel last Friday I noticed a coolant smell a few times in the cabin.....reminded me of when my water pump went on an older vehicle I had but wasn't as strong smelling. My brother inlay picked up the exact same model a day after me and he too smells it??? I will definitely be keeping my eye on this.

i have the same issue. My truck is a 2019 limited approx built date is late 2018. i started to smell this weir smell but thought it was water intrusion or something inside the car. It has not gone away I had the car clean and deodorized but it is still there. I just took it to the dealer and they told me they couldnt find the issue.
