Hey guys, this is the first time this has happened in a year of owning this truck. I got in my truck yesterday and started it up, i was met with a loud droning noise that got worse as i drove off and it would not go away. It vibrated so bad inside the cab that an empty pop can was rattling. As soon as i stopped the truck and started it up again, the drone completely vanished. Does anyone know what is going on?

Active noise cancellation (ANC) is malfunctioning. There is a TSB to correct the issue, many including myself have disabled the system. There is a bypass cable available or you could depin/snip wires

Hi @PNW_RamAdventures - If you address this with your dealer and you are in need of any additional support for that process, please do not hesitate to follow up with us via private message. I would be more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf to a specialist who can work alongside both you and your dealer.

If there is a TSB to correct the issue why would you cut wires or bypass anything in a new truck?

Thanks everyone, I will take it into the dealership near me to have them take a look. I have zero issues with this truck till a few days ago. I enjoy the ANC system, I have never had a vehicle I could whisper in and still here it very well lol.

Some people hate going to the dealership. If there is an easy fix they might prefer that route. It's also necessary to disable ANC when performing stereo upgrades

Well I think the sound system is great, I don’t plan on upgrading it anytime soon. I will take it in and have the software updated, if it becomes an issue that does not go away I will look at other truck manufacturers.

I hear you, I hate letting the dealership chase electrical gremlins as well but if there is a TSB already published for the issue you are having then I would certainly try that route first before any home remedy or cutting wires. You didn't mention earlier that you upgraded your stereo system, if this is the case then sure the dealership would prob not cover the issue under warranty bc you messed with wiring.

My stereo is still stock, I have not changed anything. I was just saying that if the dealership cannot get this issue resolved I will look into a different truck.

Cutting wires is fast and simple. Alternatively, de-pining or using a bypass cable allows you to easily return to stock and if you hate going to the dealership that's worth its weight in gold. I de-pinned mine as I feel the ANC was having a negative effect on the stereo (base 6 speaker) at higher volumes. It's purely anecdotal but it sounds less muddy now

You obviously have the "know how" when it comes to wiring and stereo upgrade but not everyone does including myself so I didn't want to OP to just start cutting wires and bypassing systems when it could just be a simple software flash at the dealer with it being a TSB. I have the alpine system and I haven't had any issues thus far and I think it sounds good for stock.

That's why in my original response I listed multiple options, leading with the TSB

I'm one of those that dreads going to the dealership and have someone put their paws in my truck. But... I have a new truck under warranty, and if it has an issue that I can't easily resolve myself, I will take it and have the dealer fix it. I've also been fortunate to have a great service advisor (and dealer), which have fixed every issue I've had with quality work and professionalism. Even when they've had to tear into the dash to fix electrical issues or squeaks, I've had no issues with damage etc, so I feel for those that have.

Anyways, to get back on the thread, I agree with @Jeffjad, take it to the dealer and have them fix it. If they don't, take it back until they do, and also engage @RamCares. They are a great resource to have.

Cheers,

I have a 2019 Bighorn 1500, and have fought this problem for 15,000 miles. It is an issue with active noise cancellation. Make sure the dealer has the latest TSB’s done. But the thing that fixed it for me is the “wire wiggle”. Now I am an automotive engineer with 25 years experience, so I thought this was bogus when I first heard it, but it is easy, free and worked for me. Open all the doors and grab the corrugated wire bundle cover between the body and door and work it around a bit. Make sure it’s free to move. The theory is that the speaker leads are taped to the speaker for shipping from the supplier. If the line associate does not pull the wires free of the tape, it can cause a feedback loop that confuses the noise suppression algorithm. Totally worked, noise is completely gone after 1 1/2 years of frustration.
