Hi! New to this forum and wanted to share a bit of a problem I am having with my dealer.

I bought a brand new Ram 1500 about 2 months ago and when I picked it up there was a few paint chips on driver side above rear wheel and a ding in the driver door. I arranged to put it in to get fixed and resprayed which I duly did. That was 25 days ago. 25!! I have been told that they are waiting on some clips for the door moldings and they are out of stock at Ram. I can't even pick it up and drive it in the meantime as 'it is not weatherproof' according to the body shop.

I am obviously furious but I am getting lied to week in, week out and still no sign of me getting it back.

What's everyone's thoughts on this? What can I do? It's nearly a month they have had it!!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Keep your fingers crossed that they keep it just 5 more days. Most states have a 30 day lemon law clause. Check your state for details, but if they do, then just go online and start completing and filing the paperwork. Super easy to do and as long as you've fulfilled the requirements there's literally nothing they can do to deny you. In fact, I wouldn't start with RamCares. I'd do nothing to raise any attention to it. You've waited this long, wait just a little longer so you can lemon law it. I'd even delete this thread just in case RamCares is able to identify you and track down your dealer and proactively try to move it along, because they care.....that you don't lemon law it.

Dealers know the limits and I wouldn't be surprised if those parts mysteriously show up just before the 30 days is up.

And if you do go the RamCares route....don't expect any actual results. They are simply a marketing arm of RAM and don't do anything but give the impression that RamCares. I gotta hand it to them, it's a really good name though.

@Doncurlyhorny,

We're sorry to hear that there have been delays while your Ram is in service. Please send our team a private message with your VIN, mileage, and dealer so that we can look into this further.

Thanks for all the replies! I chased them today (before I read all these replies admittedly) and apparently it was ready to go. I duly drove down and......I lost my temper.

It looked as though they had sandpapered one side of my truck! Swirl marks everywhere. On top of that there were visible scratches on the side. Bear in mind I had my truck detailed and there wasn't a single swirl mark on the truck before I dropped it off. The body shop guy said "They are just surface scratches, what do you want me to do about it?" He was raising his voice and being dismissive so I told him I wanted it fixed properly or the truck wouldn't be leaving that dealership.

I wait some more.

By the way I had never heard of lemon laws! Looking into it now.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

You should name the dealership. Is their body shop in house or is the body work farmed out?
The work is done in-house by their body shop. Helfman Dodge in Houston,TX. They are seriously pushing me to the limit just now.

Wow this is unbelievable. I would be LIVID. They kept your truck for a month and butchered it in the process? and then yelled at you? This can not stand. I would lemon it and get another one from a different dealer. Also, before I take my vehicle in for service, I do a full inspection on camera of the condition of the vehicle before I bring it in and the odometer. That way they will own up to it if they damage it.

Like the others have said. Lemon Law that thing. You can always get another one. I used lemon law on a subaru i bought for my wife 2 years ago, got back every penny i put into it including my monthly payments. It was like getting it for free for 4 months, minus all the hassel that dealer put me through. I lemon lawed it out of spite since they were such unprofessional jackasses and I suggest you do the same.

When I read this first post I thought right away I NEVER would have accepted the truck in the first place. Brand new trucks and body shops don't mix in my opinion. When the word "resprayed" appeared, that spelled trouble in my opinion. It just creates another set of problems.

There are many others to choose from, or order one exactly like you want.

I would bone up on TX Lemon Law before putting that card down on the table.

Chipped paint and a door ding may or may not qualify for Lemon Law protection. I mean, if those things had happened after you took delivery, you certainly would not expect LL protection, no matter how long the shop kept it. At least, I wouldn't. It's not an item that would be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. They're probably not defects that the truck had when it left the manufacturer. The remedy should be on the shipping company that transported the vehicle or on the dealership itself. LL would put responsibility on the manufacturer.

I am not saying that the Texas LL won't cover it. I'm saying it MIGHT not and I'd want to know for sure before I played that card with the dealer.

It's a tough position. Honestly, I doubt the LL covers this situation. And if the dealership wasn't charging you for the "repairs" then you don't have credit card protection to fall back on. You could get possibly get shafted with "that is how it was when you bought it and those issues are not covered by the manufacturer's warranty." If there is nothing in writing from the time of purchase that provides for those repairs, then you might end up just having to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. Fortunately, it sounds like something that would not be too expensive to fix (correctly) by a place that actually knows what they're doing.
