Dead in the Driveway; Had to be Haul Away

I doubt very much if there is a manual override to release the e-brake, however if you fix the reason the truck won't start, the brakes will take care of themselves. I had to laugh at the tow truck driver though. He said he has had this happen to him before and he just disassembled the rear brakes to release them. I told him to put his tools away, because that wasn't happening.

Don't they carry a couple of wheel dolly's to allow getting a vehicle on the flatbed when the wheels are locked? I would think this is a lot less work than what he was going to try!
 
Hey all - same issues over here. Solved the locked e-brake / tow issue with the wheel dollys. In my scenario I had no power ANYWHERE. Stone dead with no lights or power anywhere.

I hope someone is paying attention at Ram - this is a huge headache. Goodluck with yours, keep us updated. Will be doing the same over on my thread.

Thanks for commiserating with me. I just got off the phone with the Service Manager and they are still waiting on FCA to tell them how to release the e-brake, which was fine until he used the "FCA's computers were down" excuse. How about the telephone? Does that still work at Chrysler? Anyway, here's where it gets ugly. He had the truck plugged into their computer to see if it would tell them where the issue was that was causing the truck not to start. Nothing. They can't run a diagnostic on it because there is no power. Now I am really getting concerned. Let me know if you have any better luck on your end. Thanks for messaging me.

Latest update on my end is that the truck magically started up Today, without them doing a single thing. They are going to keep running some tests but so far they've found nothing wrong, which is a huge red flag to me! One key note, it warmed from the teens into the high 30s overnight into Today. Another member on my thread suggests that this issue is battery related - so I'll be making sure I get a new battery out of it the very least.

Did you try jumping it before you had it towed?

Thanks LW, I am going to call the Dealer first thing in the morning and politely suggest he drop a new battery in it just for S&G's. Nothing to lose. It's not like the truck is going anywhere. If he doesn't want to, I'll call AAA and have them go on his lot and test it. If AAA fixes, I probably wont be able to bring any of my vehicles back there again.

Please disregard my above post. I just read Show55's post from January 6th, and he described the exact same symptoms of my truck, only I didn't disconnect my negative battery cable in an attempt to reset the truck. Today in the mail I received a FCA safety recall (V04/NHTSA 19V-020) for the 12-Volt BATTERY BODY GROUND CABLE FASTENER. According to the recall notice, "this condition may cause an intermittent battery ground connection, and may result in an intermittent loss of power steering assist with inconsistent steering effort required by the driver". ( I am guessing that a loose ground cable fastener might cause other issues too). Resolution: inspect the ground fastener and torque the ground fastener.

I plan on calling the Dealer in the morning and asking him to tighten this fastener and I am hoping the truck starts. If not, revert to my above post. Stay tuned.

Ok, talked to the Dealer this morning. They tightened the ground fastener. Still nothing. Ckecking battery votage now. FCA tech will be there at 9am. Will update later.

UPDATE: I had to call AAA this morning to get the truck towed from the Dealers parking to inside their building, so the tech could work on it. FCA refused to pay for the tow. Approximately a 500' tow. Nice

That's crazy.. I would of told them it's your responsibility now.. No way I would of payed for that. Honestly the dealer should be stepping up here and taking care of this not putting it on you etc..

Do yourself a favor. Call Ram Customer Service, get a case number. Don't worry about the dealer. Dealer doesn't pay warranty repair so not going to pay a tow bill.

Call Ram custimer service and discuss with them.

A RamCares Specialist has already provided me a Case Number and has indicated that I would be contacted by a Case Manager. A FCA Tech is supposedly working on it today. I hope to hear something this afternoon.

Agreed. I'm a pretty calm and reasonable guy but if they told me I had to use my AAA to take a new truck from the dealer's lot to their building..... on the same property..... it would have been ugly.
 
UPDATE: The FCA Technician was able to complete his diagnostic testing this afternoon and the diagnosis is that the truck needs a new Radio Frequency Hub Module (RFHM). The truck isn't recognizing the remotes. He will be back Monday to install. I must have been using the key fobs too much and wore out the RFHM.
