Bug deflector opinions, do they work?

I had the weathertech bug deflector installed and it wasn't a good fit and it chipped my top grill piece like you were talking about. I ended up taking it off. I bought it off CARID and they opened a case but never followed up so I said screw it. I've always had the AVS aeroskins on my last few trucks and wish I went that route.

I put a ventshield on mine and it's been on it for 2 years now and no chipped paint or any other damage from it.

I have a brand new chrome avs bug shield in atlanta area if anyone is interested. I got it and have had it for a couple of months and don’t want to put it on anymore. I would let it go for a good price.

I might have bought that chrome AVS one if they still had them in stock, but I had multiple terrible experiences with AVS over the years and I'm over the gamble. They don't secure products at all, which leads to damage and their molds are constantly incorrect and/or warped in some way. Or both... like the one I got for the RAM.

I don't like the hood protector flat style ones. They do worse than a PPF film would. Why? They leave space for moisture and debris to collect between them and the hood. They are not actually sealed at all. I took one off a Tacoma 2 years into it and was shocked at the amount of damage in that area. So bad I had to just put it back on and sell it with the vehicle.

The bug deflector ones are great, if you can find one that actually does what it's supposed to do, which means having full coverage and a lip to actually deflect the air you are driving through. They might not do much overall, but they will certainly push air upwards a bit if formed correctly.

The Mopar ones does NOT do that. And it's a very sketchy mounting solution too. But they look good at least so there is that.

The AVS ones do have the lip, but the one I got was deformed and broken. This marks 4 out of 5 previous orders with them in the last 5 years as returns. It's so bad Amazon has slapped everything they sell with "highly returned item" warnings. If Amazon is doing that... you know it's bad. I mean, they manipulate reviews to make a sale so a warning is pretty telling. RIP AVS. You were great in the Pep Boy 2000's era when you sold off the rack and wrapped your products safely, but now you are garbage.

So now I'm waiting on a Weathertech one. From what I've read, I have high hopes for this one working on the RAM. I probably should have gone with their window deflectors too over the Mopar ones.

So yea, bug deflectors are great and do work however minimally it may be across vehicles different constructions and their own aero but QC and cheap/poorly made knock offs are killing the market and every vehicle seems to have a different brand that works for it. But the flat style hood ones are trash, don't even bother. Invest in protective film or just paint the damn hood in a rhino liner style if protection is your goal.

So I've seen a couple threads on the bug deflectors, and a bunch of opinions on the different mounting styles and colors, etc. My question is, do they actually reduce bugs on the windshield? I don't know if it's the angle of the windshield on this truck, but this thing gets quite a bit of bugs splattering on it, way more than our car and van.
They do not work to keep bug splat off the windshield. But they look good.
