Is it common to get black soot on your exhaust tips? Or is this a sign of an issue?

I installed a corsa cat back on my 2019 ram a few months back and never noticed anything until pass two weeks? Now it appears I always have a nice layer of black soot.

last weekend I even cleaned and polished the tips and after 2 days of driving it’s back.

Not sure it matters but I only use 93 octane

Normal to see a rich running engine soot up a set of exhaust tips.
a lot more maintenance and upkeep with the chrome and satin finish tips.

Any recommendations on how to clean the spot off of the pipes?

Metal polish and a clean rag usually works just fine for me. As chrisnack said, Scotchbrite will definitely scuff it up so don't use that unless you want your nice shiny polished tips to be more of a brushed/satin metal look.

If it's really really bad, mothers polish with the foam/drill will shine it up in less than a few minutes.

Do whatever you want. Your inside tips aren't polished and will continue to get sooted up, Scotch Brite WILL clean it up. and will look good. Not polished mirror, but they don't look like that now. Will be dull machined silver look. Just do the inside. Again, do what you want. Dude asked what would get it off, this will and look good.

Was thinking the same. The inside is not mirror polished, so this is a non-issue. Scotchbrite or steel wool will do the trick.

Usually nasty tail pipes are an issue with direct fuel injection. I thought the Hemi still used old fashioned port injection?

I only use Shell mid grade and here is a picture of one my tips after 15000 miles for comparison.

The issue with scotch brite, is it will scratch the finish, making it even harder to remove the, in this case, soot.

why add more work to something the correct cleaning product will do much easier and be less intrusive?

0000 steel wool would be much better than any color scotch brite, used with a fine quality metal cleaner.

I’m thinking responses 6, 7, and 8 pretty much answered the OP’s question.
