I do not believe they are capable. Before they took the truck, I remarked at how difficult headliner work can be, and I was worried about not just their ability, but anyone's. I basically had to eat my warning when I went out to look at the truck today. Now, I am really concerned with not getting the issue fixed and basically wasting a fair amount of money on a vehicle I will have to drive for years while staring at faults.

It seems like you've documented the issues fairly well so far, be sure to keep that up.

This is just me, but if I was in your shoes, I'd force FCA to take that truck back, and either start over with a new truck, or take your business to another dealer/manufacturer. And of course, if/when/wherever you find a replacement vehicle, go over it with a fine-tooth comb, knowing what you learned with this vehicle.

Not that two wrongs make a right, but just for some perspective, take several minutes to read this article in the Detroit Free Press:

This story is so sad. Buying a new vehicle is supposed to be fun, rewarding, and exciting...not a pile of crap. I wish I had a way to help you out, but I dont know anything about crummy dealers and lemon laws and stuff. There is a lot of good advice on here. I really hope you get this all sorted as the new ram is a magnificent pickup truck. Best of luck, and welcome to the forum. I am pulling for you!

I forced an update out of the dealership this morning. I am being told Thursday at the earliest. I also let them know that if the truck did not look new (like it is), I would not be taking it. I am really afraid of what I cannot see considering how bad what I could see was.

Would it be possible to just do that now? As the dealership is almost 60mi from my house, I would like to be certain it will be completed properly this time to avoid having to go back out.

I got a call today to tell me that more parts were damaged pulling the headliner down for the second time. These parts are only available from Illinois, so they take 4-5 days to ship. Because of this, the truck will not be ready until next week. As of Monday next week, they will have had the truck for three weeks. I commend the service manager for not trying to pass off the damaged parts, but at the same time this is beyond unacceptable. I have never experienced this during my 19 years of owning vehicles, and feel like the vehicle I just purchased to drive for the next 4-6 years is jaded and I will constantly be looking for the next problem. I apologize if this thread has turned into a rant for me but I have no other avenue as everyone at work thrive on Ford fanservice, so I have caught nothing but heckling about driving a loner for nearly a month now.

Final update I believe. After a month of being in the shop, I finally got the truck back. They were able to get everything repaired the correct way, and the headliner clean minus one or two small spots that no one would notice but me. The owner of the dealership was apologetic and offered to compensate me for the trouble. I asked about wheels and tires and he got me a break on a set of my choice at a custom shop in Houston. I went with the bronze Fuel Tech 20" and Toyo Open Country RTs. I can't say it was an enjoyable experience having the truck so far away for so long for BS issues right after I bought it, but in the end everything worked out well. I was on the fence about getting bronze wheels, but I am really glad I did. Once I do a chrome delete, this truck is going to be near perfect.

P.S. I am selling the original 22" wheels and tires in the FS section if anyone is interested. I will be posting them today.

Glad it worked out finally. I hope whatever the compensation was amounted to a months payment considering your time, aggravation and the fact that it needed a bunch of work. Most importantly I hope none of the issues return. Enjoy your truck! Go grab an extra $250

Make sure you go file for this additional rebate. Seems like they have been having problems with vin numbers being in the system so you have to call them so they send you the actual app. Do it 60 days of purchase. Many of us have already received our checks. No strings attached.

The only qualification is that “someone in your household” must have a non-FCA vehicle.
