I don’t have mine installed yet but the ride should get rougher if you go with a higher lift. The way it works, you are compressing the spring to achieve lift which will in turn give you a higher spring rate and a rougher ride. Some people dislike it, others have no issue with it. I have seen some rebel owners on the 5100 start at setting 5 (max) and end up taking it back apart because the ride was rougher.
Just curious as I am trying to figure this all out, too. I am the second owner of my 2019 Laramie and I notice they had put a spacer in (2 or 2.5" aluminum) and aftermarket UCA. I dont know the brand, cant figure it out. Was suggested to me by a very knowledgeable guy on here to actually remove the spacers and JUST go with the 5100's to get that couple extra inches as they dont recommend spacers. I see you did both, was that to get the total of 3.25?
I did the bilstein 5100 setting 5 for the 2in and ORP springs for the other 1in but ended up getting 3.25. My goal was 3in total. Still waiting to see if it settled at all. I have around 300 miles on this setup. I really like it, it does ride a little stiffer but don't think its that bad.
Definitely keep us posted with your progress please. I called Eibach last week and they said they were finishing up testing on their coilover and pro truck systems for our trucks. I was given the impression that their adjustable struts had to be used in conjunction with their springs as well. Can you tell us,, what parts did you order and was it from Eibach directly? Thanks bud.
Talk to Nick at GotExhaust.com he is a pro, helpful and responsive and above all knowledgeable. I pre order the CO shocks and rear strut set from Eibach from them. Wont be here until at least January but its 100% the way to go... or the Bilstein Co set. Not only gives you the lift but the handling will be much improved. I put a Hellwig sway bar on my truck and it was alot tighter, but I still have some drift or bounce and sway on my Northeast back roads with the stock shocks and springs and the 2" spacer and aftermarket UCAs the previous owner put on. I am hoping these will be a better performer and be done the 'right' way.
I personally don’t have experience with RC’s shocks or kits but I do plan on eventually upgrading my UCAs using theirs. Others here have used the UCAs with success and said the build quality is very good.Ive read and heard of others having issues with RC stuff in the past and Ive also heard of other being happy. If I was in the market for a full 3.5 kit I would consider it as an option. In terms of quality and off-road capability I still think the Bilstein 6112(or 5100) & 5160 is the best for the money, your just not getting the amount of lift as you would with the RC kit.
Had my dealer quote me a similar price when I first got my truck back in Feb. Figure most dealerships’ hourly rate is anywhere from $115-$175 per hour, installation would probably take 4-5 hours and if theyre including alignment that seems about the right price
750 for labor would put it at 150/hr for 5 hours which is believable. Took me 3 hours I think to pull my front springs, put spacers on, reinstall. Didn't replace the UCA's, so that's extra work. Also, if they're throwing an alignment in with that cost that's pretty good as they range $90-140.
