Best Dash Cam

What exactly are you wanting out of your dash cam?

Max clarity. Maybe some dude cuts me off or maybe Big Foot crosses my path - either way I want the video to be ultra crispy. Day, night, slow speed, high speed, all of it. In 2024 there's no reason to ever have blurry footage.

so maybe IMAX gimble mount? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

nah what you need is to put a crane on your truck with crew operated cinematic camera LOL

I ordered this one during prime daysightnjng deal. Also has a $20 coupon if you check the box. Will see how good it is once I get it. Will be going in my 99 Dakota R/T

Dash Cam Front and Rear, 8K Ultra HD Dash Camera for Cars, Dash cam with APP,Car Camera with 32GB Card, Built-in Wi-Fi & GPS, 3.16”IPS Screen, WDR, 170°Wide Angle, 24H Parking Mode Amazon.com

I've had two different ones of these and couldn't be happier.

Initially put it in before FitcamX was a out and saw no reason to switch it up. Not sure if fitcamx has wifi connectivity, but it's nice being able to watch clips on your phone vs removing the SD card.
The only way you can view the camera with FitcamX is on your phones or removing the SD card and using computer. There is no LCD display

I use the Viofo A119 V3 for the front. It comes with a GPS module that will embed speed and GPS coordinates in your video but you can turn each of these off in the settings. I don't have it record my speed.

I really like that if you want to download video I don't have to disconnect the camera or fool with removing the micro SD card. The camera is attached to the GPS module via quick disconnect and the GPS module stays on the windshield connected to the power cable. I just bring the whole camera inside, plug it into my computer and download what I want.

I think to go for the VIOFO A229 Plus 2CH with the hardware kit. As I have the previous one, the A129 Plus duo and it is actually very good one.

These A229 Plus has all the USB C cabling which is super convenient. Sony Starvis 2 IMX675 is not a lot of difference compared to the more expensive A229 Pro with the Starvis 2 IMX678
Good thing is that the rear camera is also a Starvis 2 IMX675 with HDR so ideal behind the tinted backwindow.

A pity that it is only 30 fps instead of the more common 60fps, if you want to use the HDR but you can't have all (so far)

I had a BlackVue for my 2014 GMC, but when I got my 2023 RAM, just the way the case is around the mirror is shaped, it didn't really fit that well so I found Fitcamx and it came with pretty good reviews. It's been a straight nightmare since.

Bought it June 14th from the company. First, it took FOREVER to get here. I installed it and it worked; but then I saw a video of a guy who said it stopped rolling over the footage, so I wanted to check mine and when I did I found that it wasn't working at all - no power. I emailed the support team and they wanted to send me a new wiring harness. About two weeks later that gets here and as I suspected, it didn't fix the issue. I emailed them again and included video of the set up and it not working and requested a new one, but that I also wanted the filter cap because there isn't a great way to remove it from the old one without breaking it or having to then jimmy it onto the new one even if it doesn't break. Bottom line, it's taken three months to finally get a working replacement - but no filter (as they said they would) and now they are squawking over a $2 bit of plastic.

Here is my list of Cons with the fitcamx - your mileage may vary.
1. I didn't have a great customer service experience.
2. It doesn't "talk" to you, meaning on my BlackVue when I started the truck it would tell me it was powering on. Unless you have a compelling reason to check, you'll never know if/when your fitcam isn't powering on.
3. It doesn't have a GPS. Maybe this is a big deal and maybe it isn't, but when you are pulled over for speeding or involved in a crash and the other person says you were speeding, the fitcam can't tell you.

Pros
1. Way cheaper than BlackVue.
2. OEM looking.
3. Easier to install (sort of).

Overall, other than the less time for getting stuff shipped, doesn't seem like you had too horrible of an experience. The company got you a working dash cam, at no cost to you. As for the filter, seems like you are both squawking over a $2 piece of plastic. Which really seems to be the only sticking point in your customer support experience.

Mine has been flawless since install. I check it periodically, and it's always been good. Andnirs easy to check by connecting to the camera with the app. I did buy my own better quality memory card for it, which my help prevent issues with files some have reported

No GPS isn't a deal breaker for most. I got cameras with GPS for my kids vehcles, just because I want to be able to check on them. if you are in a crash and the other person says you were speeding, even without GPS, the camera footage can easily peove you weren't, unless you were passing cars left and right on thw video before getting in accident.

The FitCamX has a flashing blue light that indicates that the camera is recording.

I will stick to VIOFO when I upgrade from my A129 Duo, has good video quality and does not break the bank.

Does anybody know what is behind that large cover behind the rear view mirror on a 2025 1500 Laramie? I too was wanting to install a dash cam up in that area but would like to connect to power source behind the rear view mirror instead of having to run a power wire from fuse box to mirror mount. A schematic of what is up there would be very nice?
Other option is to tap into power source in the overhead console but would need wiring schematic for that as well, anybody have one to share???

I run NextBase cameras in three vehicles, pretty solid product with a good mobile app.

Check out any utube video for "installing fitcamx in ram 1500". It will show you what's back there. The cover pops off easily.
Fitcamx is made to connect to the mirror power and is well hidden. You can not even tell it's there.
You may want to consider that brand.

Thanks for the lead, but like I am finding out not too many manufactures have produced items for the 2025 line of 1500's. So either I get the general model to adapt or wait till the custom model get released. Fitcamx only goes up to 2024 models which is different from the 2025 models.

that looks real close to the trx housing
but lets let eighty comment
@Eighty

Nope, that’s completely different from the TRX mirror housing (that I have, anyways). Here’s a picture of mine.

This subject came up in the RHO forum as well. Here’s a picture that came from a RHO, and it’s nothing like my truck. Mine doesn’t have this huge bulb on the passenger side.
