Bad fuel mileage 5.7 hemi

There's no scenery to enjoy at 0-dark-30 in the morning. Only one thing happening at that time = drive with a purpose and get where you need to be... hopefully anyone with other agendas are in the far right lane. :)
I go to work somewhat early in the am, always following 45mph speed limit on our rural roads. Without fail I always run into 2-3 of the same people who are perpetually late...weaving in and out of traffic. I usually catch up to them at an intersection, then they are off again. You would think that they would figure it out...but rinse and repeat.

I'm on the road at 05:15 usually... it's so I don't have to deal with idiots on the freeway... as long as there's not a turtle driving with no purpose in the fast lane, it all works out well.

But too dark to "enjoy the scenery ".

At that time...I would be sleeping and hopefully having a good dream about the great gas mileage in my new truck. In our neck of the woods....if I was on the road at that time....I'd be watching for deer or elk and driving even more slow. :cautious:.

According to my truck's computer, I got 21.9 on my ride home from the dealer. If this truck is like my last one, that is overstated. This is my first tank, the truck had 333 miles on it when I picked it up today. The ride home was mostly highway and Chicago traffic when I was out was rolling between 60-65 most of the way. I do not expect this to hold up or bear out with Fuelly over the long haul.

One photo was as I was coming to my exit from the highway; the other photo is in my driveway.

This is the 5.7 with 3.21 gears.

We own two Ram trucks: 2014 1500 CC Big Horn, and a 2020 1500 CC Limited. Setup is virtually identical (3.92/5.7/short bed/bedcover). Differences are: E-Torque and wheels (20" versus 22")

2014 truck averaged arond 19mpg when I drove it to work. Same commute and driving style etc. in the 2020 Limited gets me 17.5mpg. Have 2,500 miles on it now, so hopefully it will improve over time.

That's totally do-able if you're able to keep it rolling. Stopping and starting pull the MPG down.

That is what I figured. I'm expecting around 15 or so for around town and errand stuff.

Just did a quick trip from Dallas to Houston and back. Trailer empty, 1840#, 70-75mph- 12.3mph. Picked up a C5 Corvette, added 3500# -11.8 mph
Same speed.

Since day one it’s been running and I’m 96% city, 2” MotoFab lift with 3.92 gears and no e-torque

Based on my comparison of hand calculating versus what the computer shows, I'd say that means you've gotten anywhere from 12 MPG to 14. Mine ranges from spot on to 2 MPG off. But, it has never showed lower than what a hand calculation came up with.

i have a laramie quad cab 5.7 4x4 and originally (1st 1000 miles) was getting between 12-14 city, 17-18 highway in 2WD but now am getting 16-17 city and 19-20 highway at 1500 miles.
What gears ?

Just drove from SLC, UT to Phoenix, AZ. Pulled a 8.5x16 enclosed trailer with a UTV that weighs approximately 1700 lbs. The trip was mostly highway. Some travel at elevation. I stayed between 68-75 mph on the highway. Tow/Haul mode was engaged. I got around 9 mpg for the trip.

I have a 2020 laramie with org. I bumped my cold tire pressure up to 42 from 38 and it has added 1.5 mpg to my hyw mpg. 3.21 gears
Got 20.4 today at 60 vs 18.8-19 in the past. Warmer weather and summer fuel might get a little better but thats not bad I would say.

I think you are correct, the summer blend fuel will run better (coming soon) but just the air pressure increase makes a difference. I took mine from 35 to 40 (I think max is 50). same 3.21 and up into the 19's, that's running 70 mph average.

Might have to bump my tire pressure too. I think the door say something in the 30's, but this 13-15 mpg is ridiculous!

Glad I found this thread. Seems odd to complain about mileage in a truck but at the same time it seems ridiculously low. I'm just above 14mpg according to the computer. Mostly highway driving and next to 0 stop and go. I did put in a pedal commander and have a bit of a lead foot but still. I also just installed new wheels/tires that significantly increased weight and are slightly taller so I'm sure it'll drop some more.

What's terrible is I'm coming from a 2016 Wrangler JKU with a 2.5" lift and 35" tires that got 15/16 MPG and that was 3:21 gears. Compared to a 2015 F150 I had before, crew, 6.5' bed, 3:73 gears on 35" mud tires I was averaging 16-18 and as high as 24mpg on long highway trips.

How much over (if any) is that over what the door jamb states?

Going out on a bit of a limb here but I had always heard that the hemi was thirsty, no matter the gearing. It reminds me of the Fords before the modular 4.6 and 5.4 motors. The 351W was always a pretty strong engine, good torque but thirsty... It offered 210 hp and 330 hp in 1997. You could always count on 2 things - good pulling and poor mileage.
