Mine just quit today to. 2021, under 1000 miles. I have disconnected the battery just now. Letting it sit for a while then I'll hook it up and try again. I'll let you know what happens.BTW ive been a mechanic for 42 years.

We appreciate you keeping us updated! Should you decide to work with a dealer down the line regarding this concern please feel free to send our team a private message for additional support.

If you have green lines it's probably the camera or the camera's connection. I kept getting the green lines had to take it to multiple dealers since it was intermittent. Luckily one of them accepted a video of it as evidence and replaced the camera. 4000 miles later 0 issues.

I joined this exclusive club this morning when leaving the gym. I came home had breakfast, took a shower and read this thread. Went to try some of these tricks but the camera worked fine. Less that 400 Miles on truck.

Here we go....I too have no back-up camera when I backed out of the garage this morning. I will try the reset procedure later after work.
21 Rebel with 5500 miles.. Other than this I love my Truck!
I also have a 2017 Chrysler Van that has been in the shop 13 times since I bought it almost 4 years ago........I am fed up, transmission issues (feels like it slips in and out of gear and slams like a shift kit) that they attempt to fix with "updates". I asked them to just replace the transmission already and they won't. I guess my wife will be getting a new vehicle soon.

What model van?
My Ram is a 2019 and went through issues with the camera. Problem stopped on it's own. When I had the problem it seemed to be connected to change in the weather. June will be 1 year since I last had the problem. I also lost my GPS and all my destinations. No fix was done. Still feel like a mushroom over the circumstances. Dealer had no explanation and system already had the latest software.

2021 rebel U connect 12 reverse camera not working... dealership says it’s becoming common. Mine just pulls up this menu option.. I am troubleshooting it now on my own as dealership is 1.5 hour ride. Trying battery disconnect & checking input cable connection to camera.

Well crap, mine just did it again at 2200 miles. First time was at 500 miles. Only this time instead of getting a black screen I got a blue screen and it states " back-up camera unavailable at this time. If it's not working in the morning I guess I'll do the reset again.

FRUSTRATING to say the least!!

Well this happened to me after 6k miles. It worked when i parked at the grocery store. Came out of the store and then it wasn't working. Tried the two reset methods. The only one that worked for me was to hold the tune & volume buttons down for 30 seconds while truck was in "on" mode, then turn off and open door and wait another 30 seconds or so when the dash lights when off. Using the vr/tel button on the steering wheel did not work. I have the 12" uconnect screen

After the reset worked the backup camera was working again.

We really shouldn't have to do this to our trucks.

Hi all,

This is a first post for me and I too just experienced a black camera screen with my 2021 Laramie with 5400 miles. I'm off to try the soft reset protocol to see if that resolves the problem. I also saw a vid on YouTube suggesting that the wired connection in the tail gate is not super tight and that guy used a little di-electric grease on the connection with good results.

Thanks to all for posting their knowledge and experience with this issue - a great forum for sure.

[EDIT] - the reset procedure worked for me. Thanks again.

2021 ram rebel with 12 inch uconnect. 3000 km and back up camera went out. When I shift in reverse the control screen comes up with black background. (the seat and wheel controls). Touch the backup camera icon and same thing. What can you expect for $78,000. So disappointed. Any and all advise is welcome. Thanks

2021 Laramie, I just had my backup screen go orange and fuzzy on my drive home. I disconnected the camera plug under the rear bumper and disconnected the battery. All is well.

2019 Big Horn, 8.4 nav, 25,000 miles.
Black screen, no radio, with back up camera than no back up camera. Tried battery disconnect - no help.
Did reset as per post 97 a couple of times - radio and back up camera came back - all good.

Made appointment with my dealer - 2 weeks - not so good.

Add yet another one to the list…

2021 Laramie Night Edition w/ 12” Screen and 1025 miles on it. Completely black back up camera when you put the car in reverse. Pretty disappointed. Going to try the reset options in the video a few pages back, but I should have to do that to get a safety feature of a brand new car to work.

And one more to the list. 21 BTS purchased a month and a half ago and now has 1250 miles on it with 12" screen. It worked fine yesterday backing out of my driveway but today not so much. The bottom half of the screen is working fine but the top half where the camera view is normally displayed is now blacked out.

I just went out and disconnected the battery for a minute like others have suggested. I dont know if it is a coincidence or not but it is working again. I have a funny feeling that I'm going to regret buying a truck with all of this electronic BS. I love the truck but never in my life have I owned anything with this many gadgets

Good afternoon,

I hear your concerns and apologize for the inconveniences you may be experiencing. If you decide to get this checked out by your preferred dealer and would like an additional layer of support, send our team a private message with more details about your situation! We would be more than willing to see what we can do for you.

If you would rather try to perform a soft reset of your Uconnect system to see if this resolves your concerns, please perform the steps below-
  1. Put your vehicle into the accessories mode (ACC or RUN) For keyless start (push-button) vehicles: push the start button twice without having your foot on the gas or brake pedal
  2. Hold down the Phone and voice recognition buttons (or tuner and volume knob), at the same time, for thirty seconds.
  3. Let go of the buttons
  4. Turn the vehicle off
  5. Open driver’s side door for thirty seconds (or until dash illumination goes black)
  6. Close door
Thanks,

Courtney

In case anyone else needs this “old” info…

After 3+ years, my truck’s OEM battery died this morning. Long story short, everything came back shortly after the new battery was installed…except for the cameras. Instead, I experienced the dreaded blue screen and “camera system unavailable“ message. 90+ minutes of driving and several starts did nothing to change this.

After searching the forum, I found these instructions and decided to run out to the garage and give them a try (using the tuner and volume buttons). Worked like a champ! I’ll verify again in the morning, but I’m optimistic that this did the trick.
