I’m having trouble getting the apple CarPlay to work. I’ve done everything correctly, used the correct apple certified cord but it doesn’t want to work. I have the Uconnect 4c w/o Nav in my 2019 ram 1500 bighorn. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you enabled it on the Apple iPhone? It needs to be enabled under Settings-General-Carplay, and you can tell it to work, or not, while being locked.

I use it on another vehicle (VW GTI) and when I plugged into a non-Nav Laramie on the dealer lot it worked flawlessly. Hopefully the settings will do the trick, if not the cable or vehicle connections may be the problem.

EDIT: Try both USB connections up front, maybe one is bad... I think both can pass CarPlay through but not 100% about it...

All I can say is I plus my iPhone into the USB and use the USB port right under my screen and it automatically works.

I've used a lot of different cables for Car Play over the years. I've never had a cable that was the issue (when it was able to charge, Car Play worked too). Check YoAdrian's advice... make sure it is enabled on the phone. That sounds like the most logical thing.

Not all the USB ports are created equal, some are charging only. Also, car play is an option on bighorns, what level of trim is it?

Yea I’ve enabled it on my phone and that won’t connect either. I’ve tried all 3 of the USB ports and that didn’t work either. The truck has CarPlay capability but just doesn’t like to work. I’m trying to avoid a trip back to the dealership if I can help it. Thank you for your response.

It’s the 25z level 2 equipment.
If you have the 8.4” UConnect 4 even without Nav, it has CarPlay and it should work with no worries.

Like you did, I would check the phone settings first.

Then try a different cable (the most likely problem as cheap ones and even apple ones can fail internally). (Just saw @WRH ’s post, he’s right that well cared for cables rarely fail but in this case I would still suspect the cable).

Then try all the different usb plugs (the ones up front).

Then try resetting UConnect... still unconfirmed how to force the truck to soft reboot, but if you shut the truck down and sleep it will have rebooted overnight.

Then try a UConnect software update, as I think I saw somewhere you can do from the screen.

... then I would take it in to the dealer.

One more... If you have access to a friend or family member's iPhone, use it to test, to rule out the phone before taking it to the dealer.

I’m thinking it’s gonna have to go back into the dealership. The usb is charging but it’s not showing as something is plugged into it. Kinda sucks but I’ve bought new apple certified usb cables. “A” cable and “C” cable, neither worked. Tried plugging my wife’s phone into it and that didn’t sync to CarPlay either so to the dealership I go. Thank you guys for all the help and advice! I truly appreciate it all.

Sorry to hear. Hopefully it's a software issue.

Make sure your phone is unlocked. Sounds simple, but CarPlay will not come up if the phone is locked when you plug it in.

Was this resolved with a software update? I have the same issue. I’ve used multiple cords and multiple phones. CarPlay does not work under any circumstance.

There’s an option under the CarPlay settings on your iPhone to allow CarPlay when locked.

I know, mine still does not work when connected while locked

Unfortunately I had to get my phone replaced because one of the charging pins was damaged. But it works great now and I absolutely love the apple CarPlay

So it was the phone after all...
Glad to hear your issue is resolved.

Cheers,
